Why Yuri Is Seriously the Best Thing Ever (And Yes, I’m Saying It Too) 🌈💅

Alright, time to give the girlies some love—literally. So what even is Yuri? Well, if yaoi is for the boys, Yuri is for the girls. 👩‍❤️‍👩💖

Technically, Yuri (百合) is a Japanese genre that focuses on romantic and/or sexual relationships between women—usually created by and for women, but sometimes it overlaps with stuff made for men too, depending on the tone. BUT! Just like “yaoi,” Western fandoms have taken the word “Yuri” and made it a vibes-based label that pretty much means any girl x girl romance, whether it's from Japan or not. It’s become a catch-all term, like:

Got two girls falling in love?

Or having romantic tension?

Or full-on spicy sapphic scenes?? Boom. Yuri. Even if it’s from a Western cartoon, fanfic, webcomic, indie game—doesn’t matter. If there’s lesbian vibes, we’re calling it Yuri and moving on 💅

Now anyway, here are my favorite Yuri ships of all time (so far 👀):

First up: Charlie x Vaggie from Hazbin Hotel. DO NOT underestimate how epic this ship is. Like not only are they cute as hell, but they’re canon AND in a literal HELL setting?!? Gothic lesbian royalty?? Heaven who??? Spicy stuff is absolutely on the table with these two. The energy is unhinged in the best way. Power couple of the underworld. 10/10.

Second: Luz Noceda x Amity Blight (Lumity) from The Owl House. Also canon, also precious, and also very gay. I don’t even watch Owl House religiously or anything, but I’ve seen enough to say YES. They go through it, they grow, they kiss, they confess, and now they’re both 18 so yes, spicy content is finally safe to exist. Thank you time skip 🙏💜💚

Third: Luna Loud x Sam Sharp from The Loud House. THEY 👏 ARE 👏 CANON 👏 TOOOO!!! Like?? Nickelodeon said gay rights??? Luna and Sam’s dynamic is super sweet and grounded—it’s not over-the-top, it’s just real. Obviously, they’re still minors so no spicy stuff, but the wholesome sapphic vibes are STRONG and I love that for them. Rock on, Luna 🎸🌈

Now before some conservative Christian Karen walks in here like: “😡 Actually, lesbianism is a sin! Read Leviticus!” GIRL. BYE. 🚪💨 You think I care? What are you gonna do, smite me with a purity ring??

If two girls loving each other offends your holy little sensibilities, then I suggest you run off and read another one of those man x woman stories about marriage, babies, and “God’s plan” or whatever. I don’t need your Bible thumping around my gay ships, thanks 😘

Also can we talk about the irony that all my favorite yaoi ships aren’t canon, and yet somehow all my Yuri ships ARE canon??? LIKE HELLO??? How did that happen?? 😂 But hey, canon or not, if I ship it, it’s real in my heart. Period.
