Park Jinwoo and Kwon Yuri || Dream High 2 ; JB & Uibong dance battle
With: @yuriirk
Script & Details: Here
It was no secret that Jinwoo had been absolutely terrified when the evaluation had arrived. He was still very much a newbie in the grand scheme of things, and he wanted to do the best he possibly could. There was just one problem this month: his best wouldn’t be enough. If there was anything Jinwoo was certain of regarding acting, it was his lack of skill in the matter. There was absolutely no way he would be able to stand there, especially not alone, and deliver some grand, convincing speech from a famous play or something like that.
No, then the current alternative was much better. It had started as a joke, he had heard an off comment about doing a scene he knew to be absolutely ridiculous, and suddenly joking had become actual plans. In a sense he was relieved, because although the scene itself was serious, the whole getup and whatnot was just too... cringe might be the word he was looking for. Had he been the actual actors on the screen before thousands of people, Jinwoo might have felt the need to crawl into a hole and die afterwards, but fortunately the only ones who would see him were the teachers and his partner in crime.
Practicing with Yuri had been fun. She was a very casual noona whom Jinwoo had found it pleasing to be in the company of, and he greatly appreciated the fact that there was no pressure on him to do well. She was better than him by far, but she didn’t try to push him to become a master actor in just a month and for that he was thankful. Also the fact that the scene she had picked was half dance was far better than anything else he could imagine, so all in all the disaster had turned out pretty well. Probably not from a professional viewpoint, but hey, at least they tried.
When their turn was up, Jinwoo put on the music and waited anticipating for Yuri’s cue to start dancing, before it was his turn to respond in ilk. The dance was something he would never himself have come up with or want to do at a tournament, so it was kind of ironic that something like this had instead become the bricks with which to pave his future. When Yuri fell as practiced, he finished off with some fancy b-boying skills and then did the characteristic ‘kill’ gesture that almost made him break out laughing. Instead he restrained himself and tried to hide it behind a cocky grin. Whether he had succeeded Jinwoo himself didn’t know.
Yuri then got up again and went all the way close to his face to deliver her first line. He held the silence for a bit, trying to focus on his breath to calm himself down from almost messing up, and then he spoke. “How ignorant.” That was another good thing about this. The rule had been at least five lines per person, but there had been nothing about how long they should be. So Jinwoo hadn’t felt the need to remember whole paragraphs by heart. It was simple, to the point, and best of all easy to remember. He tried to walk away mirroring JB from the scene, but was stopped by Yuri who snapped back at him.
This time instead he kept the silence, did a few more breaking exercises and simply glared her into the eyes. She spoke again, and now it was his turn to deliver back, trying to place a cocky attitude to his words. Jinwoo wasn’t really cocky, so he didn’t know if he was doing it right, but they couldn’t be the only awful actors. No he couldn’t. Yuri at least knew the basics. “Stop getting in the way,” he responded, gaze still digging into the other’s, and then he continued: “I can’t concentrate on my practice. From my practice room--” Yuri immediately cut in and repeated his words, and then Jinwoo himself shot them back at her in affirmation. “That’s right. My practice room.”
Had he known a character like the one he was currently portraying in real life, he might have been the one in Yuri’s role instead, but that was the thing about acting. It didn’t matter how your actual personality was. That in itself was kind of interesting, except he didn’t really have any goals to pursue a career in acting. To him it had been much more fun setting everything up and trying to figure out who would do what and how. Yuri spoke again and he knew that their scene was almost over now. To her words Jinwoo gave a practiced scoff and quickly let his eyes run to the side, trying to look at the table the teachers were sitting at rather than directly at them. He then looked at Yuri again. “You’re living for free in the dorms anyhow,” he pointed out knowingly, and then started chuckling. “You were living as a freeloader... Whatever.”
With that the scene was over, and he gave a quick bow to the teachers before leaving the room. The moment they came out he started laughing and an “oh my god!” escaped him. “I can’t believe we actually did that!” he continued and then rose his hand to give his partner a high five.
Jinwoo watched both movies and dramas like most other people did. He didn’t have as much time to do it after becoming a trainee, but he had seen his share of different series and stories, o in that aspect this month shouldn’t be too terrifying to him. No, he didn’t worry about picking a scene at all, he could think of at least a thousand good moments from the Star Wars films that could be worthy of reproducing. But it involved acting and that was absolutely terrifying to him. He had tried to act before, but in school plays he would always get the background roles and he had been satisfied with that. No fancy things, no attention on him, no lines he could mess up and make a fool of himself.
Joshua had offered him his assistance, but somehow that only would have been more scary to the redhead. To have someone who knew him well see him in such an incompetent state? No, his nerves wouldn’t be able to handle it. Instead a sunbae from Royal had also been looking for a partner, and one thing had led to the other (mainly the comedic value of the scene itself) so know the two of them were sitting and watching the scene in question. Jinwoo couldn’t help the smile nagging at the corners of his mouth. The dance was simply too tacky for him not to be amused. “I can note down bits for the choreography if you want me to,” he said pausing the video after a bit of skipping and rewinding scenes. “As for the lines themselves, do you think you will be able to edit them in a way that would fit to our allowed time, sunb--- noona?”
earth was bitter cold, covered in piles of dirt and metal skeletons. this was the city of ruins, slumbering underneath a veil of thick smog. during the nuclear war, most humans had vanished from the world, leaving behind a sunken civilazation. only those who had risen from what could be called an ordinary human being were able to miraculously survive the storm of radiation. kang joon was one of them, a man who was able to set his right hand on fire, while the left exstinguished the flames.
with ease he climbed down a hole of wreckages, landing on his feet, before rising his body up, creating flames in his right hand to lighten the corridor that led deeper into the building. at the end of the labyrinth like structure was their secret base, isolated from the radioactive world outside. "i'm back, noona." he said with a grin on his lips, before setting down the canned food. approaching the female, he gave her a warm back hug, before gently stroking over her cheek. these past years had been tough, but having her at his side was everything he needed. in a world were old values had been long forgotten, the remaining humanity had founded a new religion in order to keep the last ounce of sanity safe. only a few had turned their back on this sect, had decided to survive on their own, on a planet that was dead from the inside.
"sorry, i couldn't find more..." the last remains of the old world were slowly running out, and still hope was growing inside of him, just like the little sprouts that returned to earth's surface. mother nature was returning, and with it the warmth.
The text had been brief and to the point like most other things Youngjae did. ‘Please come to see a movie with me. I’ll call you.’ The fact that he had to go out of his way like this was already inconceivable, but even he was tired of the person he was. He was at least trying to make an effort to change although it was mainly small steps. And hey, he even said please, so Yuri had no reasons to decline him right?
As the call connected he greeted her, and then went on to explain the situation. Usually when people asked others out for the movies there should be no such need, but general logic and behaviour didn’t always apply to the artist, and to him it was quite an embarrassment. “Please listen to me for a moment. It’s my next piece for school,” he explained, not really clarifying up why he couldn’t just have asked a classmate when it was school related, but he, Choi Youngjae, would rather die than let anyone from his class know that he was going to the cinema to watch a romantic comedy. “I have to convey romance as a theme for my next piece and let’s be real most of my romances are fucked up. You gotta help me out. I don’t wanna go alone. The theatre is probably full of couples and shit, it would be awkward as hell.”
though he’s got one secret off his chest, it doesn’t necessarily make him feel better. there’s still discomfort that sits in his belly, a steadily growing frustration that he’s not too sure how to handle because the people it involves are so detached from him. so in the end, it’s just jinseok with his worries that he doesn’t show to anyone else, the worries that eat at him and swallow him whole while he’s smiling otherwise.
thankfully, though, this practice room is empty for now and he can just fall onto his back and stare at the ceiling. free study is always helpful for collecting his thoughts and working on music theory all at the same time, but for now he simply .. takes a break. but the thoughts won’t leave him alone, which only serves to further frustrate him until he’s practically writhing on the floor, kicking and punching at the air with a salty groan.
and of course, that’s when the door opens and jinseok shoots up from his spot with wide eyes - he hadn’t expected anyone to open the door, much less see him in that state. even better, it’s ash and they haven’t quite exactly gotten to know each other much in the time that he’s been here.
this is awkward, but at least jinseok can put it off as just one of his weird quirks - .. or try to. in the meantime, he’ll just pretend he’s normal. “ hey, ash. what’s up?”
