January 30 prompt: #18 "Unexpected" Pencil, fountain pen (Lennon Toolbar Iron Deep Blue and Papier Plume Sepia), waterbrush

An idea that quickly got out of hand. Part of me is like “I shoulda put more effort into this...” and the other part of me is like "well this was a lot of effort just for the sake of the last page!!” lol

I think Hokushin is quite a good storyteller/narrator, and I wanted to try updating his tale now that we know how it all turns out. Obviously, I had to drop a lot of details for the sake of brevity/impact. It was an interesting editing challenge, and just a fun scripting and paneling exercise in general.

Sort of a screencap redraw for this prompt because I really love this shot.

Prompt: Powerful

Okay, so why did I pick Toguro for powerful? Well, he may not be the most powerful character in the series in terms of like power ranking, but his character just feels the most powerful to me. He lorded over everyone around him, with his demeanor, his strength and of course his height. He was this incredibly oppressive force for such a long stretch of time. No matter what else was happening during the tournament good or bad, you were reminded that he was there. You never forgot about him. He made a very powerful impression.

Isolation I know technically yuyear is over but I still have two drawings to go because for some reason this happened to be probably THE BUSIEST week, possibly ever. But I managed to fit some art in there too. This is Hiei from before the Jagan implant, when he would wear his hiruseki necklace so he could fight and kill pretty much everyone. I loved his huge ragged cape, and the one I drew didn't end up as full of holes, but it's not bad.

I think a lot of my more “experimental” (new/different brushes, colors, styles, etc.) has involved these twins? I don’t know why.

Isolation

“Sensui?” Itsuki called.

Sensui did not respond — and Itsuki knew that the man in front of him wasn’t Sensui. Not at the time.

“Naru-chan…?” Itsuki asked. Sensui turned his head, revealing his teary eyes.

“I feel so lonely, Itsuki,” Naru, in Sensui’s voice, cried.

“You don’t have to,” he said. Itsuki held Naru in his arms. Sensui was a tall, broad man, but when Naru took over, he seemed as small and delicate as a flower.

She was the loneliest of all of Sensui’s personalities. A soul that seemed to cluster all the pain from the other six and shut itself from the world, too afraid to see or being seen.

“I’m here for you,” he whispered. “And I’ll never let go.”

“Will you miss me when I’m gone?”

Itsuki looked at her. She had a forlorn look on her face, her cheeks wet with tears.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.

“Shinobu’s plan,” Naru said. “Even if he succeeds, we are all going to die, isn’t that right?”

Itsuki pulled her closer. “I won’t let that happen.”

He held her face in his hands and gently kissed her lips.

“You’ll never be alone again. I promise, Naru-chan.”

For those that don’t remember, Naru was one of Sensui’s personalities, and one that Itsuki implied he had feelings for (I think he actually said something about having feelings for both Naru and Sensui).

Btw, I love Sensui as a villain (I love everything about the Chapter Black Saga tbh).

yuyear day seven: rebirth

SO here it is! My final yuyear day! I posted it here instead of my artblog, but it’s here nonetheless. The moment I saw my prompt for day seven, I knew I had to make this video; it was a bit of a rush (I made and uploaded it on friday because as of this posting I’m on VACATION) but I DID IT and I am very proud.

YuYear Day 3

A/N: YuYear Day 3!! Time for Kurama to hit the spotlight. This is based on a personal headcanon of mine that Kurama goes to school and becomes a doctor after all the Demon World business is finished in an effort to negate all the bad stuff he did when he was a bandit.

Warnings: None.

Word Count: 339

Prompt: Redemption

Kurama is fairly certain that his head is going to explode if he hears the words Dr. Minamino paging him on the intercom system again.

He's near the end of his third twelve-hour shift this week, the sights and sounds of the ER becoming more repetitive the longer he works and the promise of a well-deserved two days off the only thing keeping him from losing his sanity.

The door to the ER staff breakroom opens and brings him back to the present, his tired eyes resting on a young nurse.

"Good evening, Dr. Minamino," she says, sounding just as exhausted as he feels.

"Evening," he says, leaning on the counter. "Headed home?"

"Yeah," she sighs. "Finally."

Kurama gives a weak laugh and is about to speak when the overhead speaker beeps and a staticy voice summons him to an exam room.

Sighing, he straightens and steps out of the breakroom after bidding the off-duty nurse a good night.

It's just over an hour later that he finishes with his patient - a little boy of six, who slipped on the stairs in his home and ended up with a hairline fracture in his forearm.

"Thank you so much, Doctor," says the boy's mother as a nurse finishes setting his arm in a cast.

Kurama smiles and rests a hand on the woman's shoulder. "It's no problem, really. He was a model patient."

He glances over at the young boy and smiles again when the nurse passes him a lollipop for his cooperation. "Now you be more careful, little one. Wouldn't want to give your mother another scare."

The child nods vigorously and Kurama gives the mother instructions to come in for a follow up in two weeks before excusing himself and making his way down the hall to his next patient, remembering the relief on the mother's face when he told her that her son would be just fine.

His chosen career might be stressful and tedious, but it's also one of the most rewarding experiences he's ever had.
