@billbeatthedevil gets a plotted thing!
audra sits up in the lobby of the derry town house, foot bouncing nervously in wait. she hadn’t known for certain if bill would be awake so late, but he’d responded quickly, telling her he’d meet her downstairs in a moment. she’s still wearing the clothes she wore on the flight over. putting on pajamas felt too final, like if she did it she’d be resigning herself to a life that would end in derry–– which wasn’t to say she expected them to die. it was just that laying her head down here felt like a life sentence. being able to escape in the first place had been something of a miracle, one that audra didn’t feel confident she’d be able to pull off a second time.
she looks up suddenly as he steps over the threshold, so caught up in her thoughts that she didn’t hear him descending the stairs. it’s unclear to her exactly what she wants from him–– mostly she just wanted to be with him, alone, for a moment. each of the losers had their own individual relationships with each other; it was true when they were kids, and it’s true now. no one means any more than the other, but with all that was going on coupled with the fact that bill had disappeared with mike after dinner, audra just wanted to see him. simple as that. she just wanted to see him.
“i hope i didn’t keep you from going to sleep,” she says, looking coy despite feeling nailed to the spot. audra wants to get up and leap into bill’s arms, but it’s like she can’t move.
