Paul Rauch, from All About Jazz writes, “There is a beacon of light emanating from New York City these days, that clearly illustrates this approach and subsequent innovative results, in the person(s), of the Curtis Brothers, bassist Luques, and pianist Zaccai. The brothers have recently released a fabulous quartet album, Syzygy on that label that brings to light their ability to combine their roots in bebop, hard bop, and latin, without a notion of being a hybrid, or fusion form. Indeed, it is spoken in one jazz commonality, one inventive dialect that is whole in it self.“
The Pace Report: "To Rock Hard In A Jazzy Space" The Cindy Blackman Santana Interview
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring drummer Cindy Blackman Santana performing with her group at the Jazz Standard in NYC. Cindy has a new upcoming CD that will be released sometime early next year and continues to lead her own group featuring Aurelien Budynek on guitar, Felix Pastorius on bass, and Zaccai Curtis on keyboards. Over the years she's played with a collaborated and recorded with her husband, Carlos Santana, Lenny Kravitz, Wallace Roney, and Vernon Reid.
Cindy and I sat down for a few minutes to talk about her developing her training as a musician by way of playing different music styles, her rock influences, and how a musician must accept and evolve as a musician.
