A whisper

Shit. Shit. Shit. Samuel’s mind was racing. During dinner he heard Zachariah talk about a riot that happened today at Hyde Park. How people got hurt. People they knew. Mr. Gupta, Lady Dinah was there too.. Then Ira’s name appeared on Zach’s lips and Samuel’s head was filled with bees.
Ira was hurt. Ira was hurt. Ira was hurt. And he wasn’t there to help him, or protect him -as if he could actually do so- from the swarm of people. They, of course, called Zach to treat his wounds, and Samuel had so many questions.
And so, after dinner, he decided to corner his oldest brother to try and get as much information as possible. “Zachariah, If you don’t mind I would like to ask you something after dinner?” he said closer to the end of the meal, a smile on his face, betraying what his mind was going through. He barely ate then, his head filled with images of bloodied and blue Ira, lying unconscious on a bed or a sofa. Images of Zach wrapping bandages and administering some medicine, and Ira.. just lying there.
When they were finally alone, Samuel approached his brother, and placed a hand on his shoulder. “I was wondering if you’d mind telling me more of what happened to Ir- Mr. Vaisman. Is he okay?” He couldn’t even pretend with pleasantries regarding the other people involved.
