An Open Letter to Zach Lederer
Every night before bed I scroll through Facebook, Twitter, all of the other meaningless social media sites we use to "stay connected." Last night was different. The first post told me you had passed. You, who I hadn't spoken to in eight years, but knew none the less. You, who had battled against cancer for the majority of your life, yet still believed 100% that you were living the dream. The exact amount of devastation I felt is indescribable because without ever having a conversation with you, you had changed my life. Every interview, article, or tweet about you or by you made you my role model. Your strength, positivity, perseverance, and humility was unmatched. You made me want to change the world. You made me want to be better. Every day you woke you, you were grateful. Every day you were here you tried to make other people's lives better. You started a world phenomenon. You changed the world. The world lost a hero last night. But, because of you, more heroes have been created. In a world where humanity is spread thin, you restored my faith in it. You restored my faith that we are all here for a reason and every day gives us another chance to help fix the world's ailments. We are all #livingthedream, you just made me realize it. When cancer is cured I will dance or joy, until then I will dance for life, all while thinking of you. Rest Easy, Zach Lederer
