Two Posts.
Continual inaction in regards to Syria is beginning to prove distressing. As the weeks in DC multiply it becomes apparent that lack of information is not the issue, instead politics continue to reign over human rights. Examples from history abound with tales of inaction, yet the amount of intellect that this city possesses coupled with the desire to do good seems to undermine a quixotic approach.
The dampness of the air is the most startling experience coming from Boulder. An oppressive heat mixed with a highly moisturized atmosphere results in a constantly sweaty state. Many of those runners that are so prevalent in the Boulder community will find themselves not tired from their exercise, but exhausted from the heat.
The National Geographic had a samurai exhibit open to the public for a nominal fee. Certainly interesting to learn and see that suits of armor were presented to Presidents Ulysses, Woodrow, and Teddy. Though it would be much less personal, some cherry blossoms would be publicly pleasing is they were planted along the Mall.
July 4th occurring in the capital brings a large crowd. The innumerable fireworks that were displayed just in the Mall area was certainly a spirit rousing event. Cannot help myself for comparing the show to that of Disneyland, which definitely has a more cohesive story line throughout their performance and a larger array of fireworks. It still would be interesting to find out what the green fireworks over the Lincoln Memorial represented.
Post-show, the Lincoln Memorial itself was the attraction to be at. If any ever feel the desire to speak to a security guard for 20 minutes, ask one about the Robert Lee visage that is said to be found in Lincoln's hair. It certainly takes a little bit of imagination to see the silhouette take form.
For those that are interested in making full usage of their metro rides to work during the week, let none say that it is not enough time to get through a book. About 15 pages away from finishing the second metro read has shown that there is always time enough with the constant metro stops. Of course I will refrain from mentioning the page number of these books though.
