In the depths of the northern winter, and with 24-hour darkness at the North Pole, an extraordinary climate warming event is happening. And for many scientists it is now beyond words. Capitalism is basically requiring that we all wear suicide vests so that it can continue its live-for-today plunder nonstop.

There are very few things more absurdly misguided than the fact that we’re risking the global food supply, biological diversity, making poverty worse, the existence of many forests, human health and life, etc., so that shareholder value, executive pay and the global financial casino can continue unabated.

If you knew nothing else about capitalism other than the fact that environmental catastrophe is transiently good for capitalism, you’d know enough to reject this economic system. 

Imagine someone in 2040 reading the news that the last polar bear in the wild just died.  A fitting epitaph on a tombstone would be a marble carving of the S&P 500 from any edition of the Wall Street Journal in 2023.
