Interview with Joliette from Mexico
You probably saw them at The Fest or on tour in your home country: Joliette from Mexico are on tour forever. Recently they announced a run with Birds in Row. You recently toured the US and Mexico. How was the trip? It was amazing! We've been touring non stop for 2 and a half years, and although we love touring Mexico, we're always excited to visit friends in the US. We also want to make our american audience grow. Do you have any crazy stories you can share? We got tons of them! We got pooping stories, drunk stories, missing airplanes and buses stories, girls stories, crazy fans stories, crazy sleeping places stories, near death encounters stories...you name it! For real, we got tons of them, but let me think... One that I was recently re-telling to some friends, was when some of us stayed at this girls house who really kindly offered us to sleep in and at the break of dawn her mother came back to the place and didn't like the idea of her daughter having more than 3 dudes sleeping in her living room...it was pretty much a scene from any mexican "telenovela" where the mother is really dissapointed of her daughter for being a "slut"...WE WERE JUST SLEEPING THERE! Hahaha to make the long story short, she kicked them all out and left them stranded in the middle of a tropical storm...no rest at all and had to sleep on the street for a couple of hours until the others could picke them up. It was funny as hell looking at a picture taken from them sleeping under some ghetto ass roof while raining. I assume the highlights was your show at The Fest. How would you describe that show in particular? This is our second Fest, we played the one before this one, and let me tell you, it gets better! We really like The Fest's vibe all around, people go there for one reason, and it's all about the music. You make lots of friends there. People from all over the world go to see new and promising acts, it's tons of fun. This year we had a really great turnout we were really satisfied with the outcome of our Fest's performance. We hope to get the chance to play again next time. What is the difference for you between touring the US and Mexico? There are lots of "tiny" differences. But at the end of the day, touring is touring everywhere in the world...at least that's what we've experienced. What I can tell you is this, in Mexico, the audience is not as big as the US, and there aren't so many "big cities" to play in. We've been really stubborn and been pretty much in all of Mexico, but that's one of the significant differences, in the US you pretty much have a crowd for every city, you have a pretty well stablished scene. In the US there's a bigger acceptance for the music we play than in our beloved country. Do you have a favorite city to play? We've been lucky enough to have had the chance to play in different cities in the world, but if we had to choose, I'd name a few: TelAviv in Israel, Berlin in Germany, London in the Uk, La Havana in Cuba, Austin, Chicago and Gainesville in the US because of the friends we have there, Toronto in Canada because of our friends as well and Mexico City and Puebla our home town. Tough question! You are coming to Europe soon. Can you already tell us a bit about the routing and your expectations? We've been once in Europe already...and we had the time of our lives! We love it there, have also some friends there and love the way the europeans think and work around the touring bands, we feel very pampered there. We feel they treat us like royalty...hehe I don't really know why, but I guess it's just the way they see and treat any artist. They respect them. Can we expect a new record from you this year as well? Yup! Already recorded, mixed and mastered! We're really excited!!! We'll have it ready to sell around April! What's your favorite band of 2015? I don't think we'll be very biased with this one, we'll just name our friends :p we love them for what they play and even more for the people they are. Our favorites of 2015 are definitely Life In Vacuum from Canada, Überyou from Switzerland, ZagaZaga from Israel, itto and Lyed from the US, Boden from Germany, Petrol Girls from the UK and Cardiel from Mexico/Venezuela. We could keep on naming lots of bands. We've been lucky enough to have seen so many amazing acts throughout 2015... What can we expect from you in 2016? Shows, shows, shows and more shows...I think a little bit less touring...but just a little bit, hehehe. We just want to enjoy our new baby, our new EP, we want to play it everywhere we can.
