At the Hungarian side of the border, on the few hundred metres streching between the railway station at Zákány-Gyékényes and the fence erected at the border, only a bit more than a dozen volunteers were trying to provide at least basic medical care and to hand out food and drinks to the people struggling in the mud becoming knee-deep in the autumn rains.

A határ magyar oldalán, a zákányi vasútállomás és a határra épített kerítés közötti néhány száz méteres területen mindössze egy bő tucatnyi önkéntes igyekezett legalább alapvető orvosi ellátást nyújtani, ételt és italt osztani az őszi esőzésekben térdig érő sárban vergődő embereknek.
