It had been a long time coming. Ever since negotiations had finished with Aria, Mara had begun looking into reach out to the Citadel Council now that she had a way into the galactic community. Allying herself with the Queen of Omega may not have been the best step if she wanted to come to amicable terms with the Council, but it was preferable to the regulations that would come with being a “new species”. Besides... she had found an interest in Aria and how she ran her domain; the alliance certainly wasn’t a mistake, that was for sure.
But now she had her sights set on the Council as well, and that meant a diplomatic trip to the Citadel. It had been all arranged ahead of time, of course; she had surprised the Council with an appearance over the comms through Omega Station, and they had seem intrigued by the Queen and her Awoken people.
Unfortunately, being on the Citadel meant she needed an escort, and one of her own guards didn’t cut it for the Council; they wanted one of their own to accompany the Queen of the Awoken, and as such, Commander Bailey was given the duty of making sure the Queen got where she needed to be on the Citadel. But she wasn’t the only one he was escorting, as it turned out.
Mara stepped onto the private docking bay that her ship had been directed to, eyes scanning the relatively empty space. There was a keeper working away at a terminal, and a couple of dock workers, but it was otherwise empty. Well, beyond the people that had come to meet her, that is.
Stepped off the ship just after her was an Awoken girl of about thirteen. She, unlike her mother, was dressed rather casually (this had been an argument before they had left for the relay), but the deep purples and golds she wore still gave her the look of royalty. The Princess was young, but Mara had decided she needed to see how negotiations worked sooner, rather than later. And introduce the Council to her heir properly, of course.
“This place is weird. Do I really have to be here?” Ronja whined in Reeftongue.
“English, little one. Our language does not translate as of yet.” The Queen turned her eyes to those waiting on the dock. “I suppose you are the chosen escort for this meeting?”
