Who does your OC envy and why?
I am legally obligated to have this question be about reine. he is the most jealous motherfucker around and he has EVERY reason to be. He’s extremely jealous of Zan despite Zan being a pathetic sopping wet kitten. Most of the jealously stems from Reine’s inherent fear of being inferior due to being a drone—he spends every waking moment trying to prove to others and himself that drones are just as capable and worthy of life as workers and queens. Seeing a worker stumbling through life and somehow getting out on top (in his eyes, Zan would certainly disagree) is enough to make him jealous, but it’s heavily accentuated by the way Reine sees himself in Zan. Despite their hatred for one another, they are quite similar, and the way Reine sees it, Zan is essentially just him but with all the privileges he’ll never have—Zan is forgiven for his misdeeds much quicker because he’s young and weak looking, whereas Reine is an adult and a lot stronger; Zan is given a lot more attention; Zara “chose” Zan over Reine. As much as Reine sees Zan as a pathetic, manipulative, wretched little Freak, he’s extremely jealous of him <\3 not helped at all by Reine’s rejection sensitivity, the way he sees things if he’s not given full priority for a second everyone Hates him and they don’t care about him anymore. you can see how this causes friction when Zan is almost always given more priority given he is an active suicide risk lmao
What skill does your OC need to work on improving?
Zan. absolutely needs to work on his personal views of the world and his insanely bigoted beliefs, but that’s not a Skill, so! more wholesome answer! He really needs to work on his social skills I fear <\3 He’s not used to having normal conversations with people, asking for help, talking about his emotions, etc. He’s used to only conversing with people when it’s absolutely necessary, and the Nest promotes the idea that a lot of things most people would deem important are unnecessary. He has a tendency to wander off mid-conversation because he gets anxious or bored, or he’ll interrupt people because he wants to talk, or he’ll be way too blunt to the point of making people uncomfortable…basically he sucks at socializing!! His first reaction to seeing an outwardly gender nonconforming bug was to loudly say “WOW!!! are you a man or a woman???” He does thankfully get better at socializing, albeit mainly after the main plot ends because nobody wants to watch this guy spend like a year learning how to ask for directions or something. He kind of overcompensates for a while and starts talking really stiffly and professionally in casual contexts, e.g. “hello there sir. I apologize for the interruption, but I would be most grateful if you would take the time to show me to the bathroom. Most appreciated.” he has a really crackly and overall Pubescent voice so he sounds lame as fuck saying things like that
