In an article by the LA Times, information about a Sofia the First: Royal Magic’s villain has been revealed.

Her name is Zandrya and is played by Eden Espinosa, known for playing Wicked’s Elphaba on Broadway, and Cassandra in Tangled: Before Ever After. She describes the character as “loud, bratty, confident and powerful.”

Creator Craig Gerber says that the character is made to have an entitled air, “as if all of the magic should just be given to her and she shouldn’t even really have to work for it.”

She is a sorceress looking for magical items to make her more powerful, but taking Sofia’s amulet will be a challenge for her due to Sofia’s confidence in her magical abilities growing. Zandrya is also a master of disguise, and takes a different form in each episode she appears in an attempt to fool Sofia and steal her amulet.

Espinosa says that despite this, she believes Zandrya may be a little misunderstood, and that some interactions with Sofia may make her question what she’s doing.

A Gloomshire Theory

So....with the reveal of the series' new villain, Zandrya, I have a little theory about her. I know that I may be wrong on this one, but I also have a good feeling about it, so hear me out.

Notice how she is dressed is blue with some purple accents, and that her name starts with the letter Z. You know who else has these traits?

These two. Prince Zane and Princess Zaria of Gloomshire.

Zandrya could be Gloomshire's royal sorceress, who decides to betray the royal family, Zane and Zaria's family, in order to take over her kingdom, or even the entire EverRealm. Maybe she would be like Grimtrix in the last series, who despised royalty, which explains why she could be the villain for the show.

And although this may not actually happen, it would certainly be interesting if Zane and Zaria (who I'll call the Z-blings from now on,) will be in on this as well. Like they could play a part in Zandrya's plan that could nearly lead to her victory, intentionally or otherwise.

I can't be certain about this though until the show comes out, but the moment I have seen the article about Zandrya, I immediately noticed her design similarity to the Z-blings. I could not resist holding this theory in, and had to post about it. What do you all think?

One of the intriguing things about the new villain Zandrya is that she is described as a bit of a misunderstood villain. And it has me curious, is there gonna be a moment where Cedric would try to talk to her and tells her that he understands what it’s like to be misunderstood? since he was also victim of being treated so unfairly by so many people in his past 🤔
