(I haven't written fics in ages, and I know this is kinda short but I wanted to test out some stuff. If you guys like it I'll make more-)
Late night lunches aren't uncommon in the ninja household. Everyone has their little nibbles: leftovers, snacks, Zane's newest bakery addition..
But tonight feels odd... As Jay steps through the quiet halls, the floor creeks, sending volts through his spine. The air is thick, all consuming. And the kitchen doesn't serve as respite. Cold hangs heavily, like a thick mist. The lightening ninja finds himself stuffing cookies a little faster than normal, attempting to make a break for it. Escaping this aura of dread.
"... Jay?" The shorter screeches, dropping the baked goods and turning with a fist. It's dodged, grabbed and spun. Their faces come close, much too closer for comfort... Zane.
"Zane! What the hell man?! Why are you just standing there, it's like three in the morning!" A high squeal leaves the boys mouth, as he fumes in embarrassment and dissipating fear.
"I was watching the spiders. They crawl more at night, when they think we aren't watching." A cold tone, expression set almost.. doll-like. It's absolutely terrifying and Jay can't help the shudder.
"... Uh huuuhh, alright." He moves away, only to find the ice masters still holding his wrist. "Zane, buddy.. can you let go?"
"Why are you awake at such an hour? Eating sugar no less. It'll rot your teeth.. your peculiar human teeth-"
"Zane! Dude. Stop being a weirdo. Just let me go." Jay pries his wrist away, rubbing the soreness off.
Zane smiles. It feels wrong, enough for the bile to pool in Jay's stomach... The cookies are fighting back, now.
"You should go to sleep, Jay."
"Yeah, right.. sorry." The blue ninja quickly takes his leaves, slipping inside his room as another tingle spreads through every nerve and joint. It's nicer in here.. the cold, dusty mist stops at his doorway, letting the lightening ninja take big gaps of air. It serves as a cool down, a reset for his jumbled thoughts.
... Jay doesn't want to admit it. He's never been incredibly fond of Zane, his glass eyes stare too long, his face doesn't move as he speaks, as if a hollow puppet. It was better when he at least looked decently human, enough of a disguise to soothe any freakish "quirks". But now, with that titanium corpse, Jay can't help but tense.
And his words.. they way he talks about the other's, as if they're the freaks. Not him. "Zane's not a freak Jay, don't be mean. He's just.. a little different." Cole's words, his aggressive need to sugar coat Zane's behavior. He's the closest to the droid, using his own imagination to see Zane as.. "human". But Jay's seen his insides, he's seen his neck turn, his faceplate open, like some freakish killer.
He'd never say it out loud, but Jay is horrified of Zane. Even more of him snapping, of those faux emotions coiling over. He's quiet enough to kill everyone in their sleep.. to plan farther than any human would.
