Zane knew he should have felt bad for doing this, he really did, but how could he when she looked so adorable? Especially as she stood at his door, looking at him with an expression that was the perfect mix of a pout and a scowl, and a marked trace of annoyance in it. He’d moved into the building a couple of months before, and it hadn’t been long before his habit of throwing loud parties with his friends had irritated his next door neighbor. Not that he was doing it on purpose. Well, not at first. The first time she’d come over to complain, he’d had a house full of college mates, and she’d retreated almost immediately after voicing her complaint, clearly caught off guard - by him, he felt, but also by the amount of people she could spot in his living room. The next few times she’d simply banged on the wall, but hadn’t shown up. And Zane had been sort of hoping she would show up. But instead of being a reasonable adult and walking over to knock on her door, he decided to annoy her to the point of forcing her to come back. He’d avoided throwing parties for that, as he didn’t want other people to be around and possible scare her off again, he’d simply turned up the stereo, tried to practice a little guitar (which he knew he was terrible at), and just generally transformed into the worst neighbor she could have possibly had. And, apparently, it worked. His grin was halfway between triumphant and cheeky as he leaned on the door frame, eyes running over her. “Yes, neighbor?”
