The Legend of Kyrandia: Book One (1992)
A Mother's Love
"Really? Out of all the things you could've messed with, you messed with a hermit crab.." Zanthia asked with an exasperated sigh as she checked Michael's finger as she held his hand in her anchor-like claws. Michael looked up at her and met her sharp bronze gaze before looking down at the sand under his feet. He had tried to move a hermit crab to a safe place, only to be pinched on one of his fingers. Zanthia was close by and was quick to gently remove it before placing it onto the sand beside her. The hermit crab was long gone, having fled from them.
"I was only trying to move it somewhere safe so it wouldn't get stepped on.." Michael muttered. Zanthia rolled her eyes. She saw there was no real harm done, but it would certainly bruise later on. She gently released his hand and sighed.
"I know you had good intentions, but sometimes things are better left alone. You should know that from the time you disturbed my son's slumber, am I correct?" Zanthia asked as she raised an eyebrow at him. Michael nodded. He recalled the memory and shuddered. It was hard to believe she is the mother of Titan, the largest and most dangerous tug he's ever seen. If he weren't a Rider, Titan would've devoured him on the spot. Instead, Titan snapped his jaw at him and snarled as a warning. Of course, Zanthia gave Titan quite the lecture shortly afterwards and Titan had become much more amiable.
"I know.. I should've left it alone." Michael sighed. Zanthia smiled gently. Her usual sharp and cold gaze turned warm and soft. She gently gave him a few gentle pats on his shoulder. He looked up at her once more and returned the smile. He was one of the few to see the softer side of the fearsome tug. He knew her more than just the fearsome tug she had become known to be. He knew deep down, she was a loving and caring mother.
"It's alright, Micheal. Just be careful from now on. I can't stand the sight of one of my precious babies being hurt." Zanthia said gently before she gingerly picked him up with her claws and hugged him. Michael relaxed and closed his eyes, feeling safe and warm in Zanthia's arms.
"I will, Mrs. Zanthia. I will." Michael replied.
And another lil fanart in the retro style 😊
Do you like old games as much as I do?
Fan art of Legend of Kyrandia, book 2: Hand of Fate. My favourite Point & Click game from all times.
This is one of my favourite places in the game, the natural bridge, and beautiful and talented royal mystic and alchemist, Zanthia. As I’ve said before, she was such a great role model for me since I was a child. Not only was her the main character, but a very talented and strong one. She is descibred as ‘the sanest person of all Kyrandia’, smart, witty and independent. She is not the damsell in distress of the game, instead it is her boyfriend Marko who she has to get out of distress thru all the adventure and she also adapts her outfil to every terrain and situation (light clothes for a warm place, warm clothes for cold, warrior outfit when mad...) She is the reason I took Zanthia as my main nickname all those years ago and to this day she is still the number one female hero from videogames.
It was time for me to finally do some fan art of this amazing game and main character.
me: *makes Zanthia stand on lava for longer than two seconds*
Zanthia: *catches fire and dies*
