Thought I’d share some photos from fieldwork last summer since I spent this summer teaching! These are ceramics discovered on the island of Zapatera, which is located in the middle of Lake Cocibolca in Nicaragua. While very few people live on the island now, it was previously home to a thriving Chorotega community between 800 - 1350 AD. These ceramics were actually discovered many years ago when modern inhabitants constructed a new home on top of an archaeological site. After holding on to the ceramics for decades, the family has agreed to bring most of them to the small archaeological museum at the base of the island to help educate visitors about Chorotega culture and history.
