League of Legends: Season Start 2018 "CLIMB" concepts by Jason Chan
Visions of Zaun
W I L D L I F E
The Land and coastal areas house an large assortment of astounding creatures, such as: Cliff-shrikes, Crag-ducks, Flesh-eating mites, Gutter rats, Plague rats, Shadowhares, and Viridian beetles.
There are also more mundane creatures inhabiting the coastlines and docks such as seagulls.
Zaun: Masquerade Parties
//Although masquerade parties are more commonly practiced in the more traditional city-states of Demacia and Noxus, Zaun - and Piltover as well - are known to have adopted this type of costume party into their own celebrations over the years.
In Zaun, the attraction of masquerade parties is that the identity of one’s self is concealed by a mask as simple or intricate as one likes. This means that enemies and allies alike, various figures of authority, and even hired escorts can interact freely without the constraints of class and status. One is easily more likely to kiss and make off with a person whom outside the party they may hold various grudges against.
And even if some people are recognizable despite the disguise, it is a respected custom to never treat the suspected individual any different than any other party guest, nor bring attention to their identity for reasons of conflict.
In terms of the type of wear that such party-goers seek when the dress code is that of a masquerade ball, many artisans in both the lower and upper cities find themselves with a rise in business for everyone in attendance wants to have a uniquely crafted mask commissioned from the best of the best.
Note: The men tend to lean towards more Venetian-styled masks that cover anywhere from just the eyes to the whole face, whereas women prefer feathered or laced masks that cover primarily the top half of the face or just around the eyes. However, no specific style is meant for either sex alone; it is all up to individual preference as well as what was talked about between the attendee and the artist.
Additional styles include half-masks (covering half the face vertically), animal masks (covering half to the whole face), and opera-masks.
Aside from the required masks, the type of clothing one wears is also crucial to the event. Unlike regular galas held in Zaun, the style of clothing is meant to emulate or even parody the ‘old-fashion’ styles of the aristocrats in Demacia and Noxus alike, from which masquerades originated from to begin with. So, rather than the normal steampunk-Victorian-esque fashions, there is a significant increase in ball gowns, coat tails, petticoats, and high-waisted dress pants. Some may appear elegant, while others may uphold the style but be personalized with decor of a more Zaunite nature or colour-palette.
Does the queen have any trans customers?
//Indeed! Zaun is a place of freedom, as chaotic as that can be sometimes, and that does not exempt those who wish to live as their true selves. It is one of Zaun’s many attractive characteristics, where people are not there to judge but to only succeed in their personal goals.
Zaunite Fashion
[ Taken from my short thread with RiotWhren during the Zaun AMA: ]
Q: A question to help better visualize the city: what sort of fashion do Zaunites wear? What are the differences between each societal class in their dress (i.e. what do the rich vs. poor wear?) And lastly, is there any sort of 'people of Zaun' type concepts anywhere? As I recall, there was at least one concept image for Piltover's people! Thanks!
A: We do have people concepts, but I'm not sure when we're getting them on Universe. In terms of fashion, there're definitely differences between the classes -- among the lower and middle classes, lots of rolled-up sleeves, layers, and various mechanisms to keep the toxins out and your feet dry. Among the upper classes, brighter, vibrant colors (because $$$), and there's less need to have protective elements in your clothes, so more refined patterns and cuts. In fact, I'd say the rich chem barons would pride themselves on looking nicely presented when riding one of the lush elevators up and down the city.
Visions of Zaun
L O C A T I O N S A - Z
Zaun is a city within Piltover located between northern and southern parts of Valoran. The current well known locations (not counting Piltover) encompassing Zaun are:
What type of old-time automobile would fit Zaun/Piltover and more importantly which would fit Val? How would she use it as status symbol? This can include trolleys (since it seems the city uses those and elevators a lot)
//Before going into what vehicle Valentina would use, in terms of vehicles, I personally headcanon that they are more prevalent in Piltover than Zaun given the structures of the cities, however it is not as if they don’t exist in Zaun at all.
The roads primarily exist on the mid/lower levels of Zaun where the mid-levels are used mostly by the rich and the low levels used by the lower-class citizens (who own vehicles of some kind, or who have created their own from junk as it is totally possible). Looking at how they are not so widely manufactured or used given the lack of open space, having a vehicle at all is a status symbol. It is what it looks like/its make that determines how much status one gains from it, however.
Valentina personally does not drive nor does she have a driver. Not that she can’t afford it, she simply uses to choose her money elsewhere, and she enjoys walking as it gives her the opportunity to scout potential Rose employees. But, if she were to have any automobile, she would perhaps have something akin to a 1947 Cadillac.
In terms of what automobiles would fit Zaun or Piltover as a whole, anything from around the 1940′s seems to suit my personal image of the cities. Sportscars with their tops down would be more popular in Piltover; police cars would probably resemble this look based on the notion that the boisterous PPD tend to hang out of their vehicles like mad-people.
