TL;DR Version: Wendy’s new chicken tenders remind me of a thicker, saltier version of the Burger King chicken tenders. Meanwhile, there is nothing “S’Awesome” about their comically misnamed new sauce. There are much better fast food chicken tender options. Full Review: Oftentimes, fast food restaurants will come out with similar new products at roughly the same moment. Right now the literal flavor of the week is chicken tenders and special sauce. McDonalds made their entry’s big push amid the whole Szechuan debacle last weekend and Wendy’s followed suit. Wendy’s touts their tenders as “lightly seasoned and breaded for a crispy outside and tender, juicy inside.” Based on that description, I expected something like what you’d get at Zaxby’s or Guthrie’s. That expectation was shepherded along by the fact that Wendy’s new “S’Awesome Sauce” looks a lot like the special sauces at those places. In reality, the tenders are like thicker versions of the tenders they serve at Burger King, only covered with salt & pepper. The sauce supposedly took two years to “perfect” and “mixes crowd favorite condiments.” It’s more like when a child suicides all the flavors from a soda fountain, so I think terms like “perfect” and “awesome” are grave misnomers. The terms “weirdly sweet” or “teriyaki jerky-like” are more apt. So stick to Zaxby’s or Guthrie’s for your basic chicken tender and sauce needs. If you want something a little different from your tenders, the KFC Nashville Hot tenders are still the way to go. #Wendys #ChickenTenders #SaucePorn #GuthriesChicken #ZaxbysLife #KFCLove
