MY ZUMBA CONVENTION SCHEDULE - POST #6
Hip-Hop Turn Up with Gina Grant - Sunday 8/17 8:30-10:30am
Gina is Zumba’s biggest star, other than Beto who is the founder and creator of Zumba. I have been admiring her hair body instructing style for years now and I use a lot of her choreography ideas in my classes. I don’t necessarily care about hip-hop as much as I just wanted to take a class from Gina while I had the opportunity. She is too darn fabulous to pass up!!!
MY ZUMBA CONVENTION SCHEDULE - POST #5
Saturday 8/16 9am-6pm - Zumba Pro Skills Instructor Training with Steve Boedt
STEEEEEEEEEEVE! Steve Steve Steve.
This is the class. I mean, of course I’m excited about every other second of Convention, but this is the class that I’m the most stoked about. Learning from Steve will be an epic moment in my “career” as a Zumba instructor. Truly.
And I’m excited about the ways Pro Skills will help me grow as an instructor! Here’s the description from the website:
"Create the ultimate Zumba® class experience with the Zumba® Pro Skills instructor training. It’s perfect for Zumba® Instructors ready to take their teaching skills to the next level! Enhance your teaching techniques and presentation skills, while learning how to strengthen bonds within your student community. This instructor training will help you develop your own unique strengths and give your leadership skills a professional edge.”
MY ZUMBA CONVENTION SCHEDULE - POST #4
Zumba Step Instructor Training with Marcie Benavides
Friday 8/15 9am-6pm
I’ve talked about this incessantly already. You know I can’t wait.
(I also predict being really sore after this training. The step is low, yes…but my muscles will notice it I’m sure.)
MY ZUMBA CONVENTION SCHEDULE - POST #3
Master Class with Pedro Camacho & Martin Mitchel
Thursday 8/14 7:30-9:00pm
There were A LOT of master classes to choose from and it was incredibly hard to decide. I was familiar with many of the presenters because I am a crazy Zumba stalker fangirl….no, I don’t know why I crossed that out because it really is the only explanation. :P
But I remembered seeing these two Dominican dancers do a few routines with Beto on a ZIN DVD a while back and was so impressed by their moves and their energy, but also by how much FUN it looked like they were having. No pretense, not showing off - just having fun. So ultimately that’s why I went with Pedro & Martin.
It has minimal to do with their matching fluffy hair, I promise. hehe
MY ZUMBA CONVENTION SCHEDULE - POST #1
Bollywood Obsession with Sucheta Pal
Thursday 8/14 12:00 - 2pm
I knew I wanted to take a Bollywood session if I ever made it to Convention, so I made that a big priority when registering. It’s a style I love and I really get into the music, but I usually have no idea how to choreograph it on my own or translate many of the moves I see.
I am beyond thrilled to get to learn from Sucheta! She is THE ZES (Zumba Education Specialist) for all of India! Meaning she trains all of the Zumba instructors there. This woman knows her stuff! I have thoroughly stalked her YouTube page and cannot wait to see what moves and songs she has in store.
Let's talk ZUMBA CONVENTION!
I’ve got 15 days to go and I’m getting more and more excited by the minute. So I’m going to do a series of posts talking about each session/training that I’m going to do at Convention! Just to give me an excuse to wallow around in the details for a while each day. :)
I know that the majority of you won’t care about all this (and if you consider this Zumba spam you best unfollow me now, because in two weeks it’s going to get SO MUCH WORSE!), but maybe a few of you will. And I know that for years now I have always gobbled up all the posts and pictures I could find about Convention, since I couldn’t go myself. So this goes out to all of you Zumba nuts who are dying to get there - don’t give up the dream my friends!
In addition to all the amaaaaaazing classes and sessions I'll be taking at Convention, on the Wednesday night we arrive there were a handful of "master classes" to choose from. They are separate from the actual Zumba event, but basically a bunch of well-known Zumba instructors from around the world take advantage of the fact that there are going to be THOUSANDS of Zumba addicts gathered right there and have their own classes! :D
I was faced with the impossibly difficult choice between a class with Lauren Fitz (who you know I loooove) and Alejandro Angulo, a YouTube famous instructor who travels the world with his Salsation dance group.
I love them both and have used their choreography in my classes, but I ended up going with Alejandro because miss Fitz lives just one state away from me and Alejandro rarely even does events in the US! And when he does they're in California or Florida, not Kansas. :P So I feel like my choice was obvious.
I am so so so (x infinity) excited about this. He is so charismatic and energetic (MY PEEEEEOPLE!!!!!!) and the event features a lot of LIVE musical guests which I imagine will be incredible for a Zumba class. Plus, I'm hoping he will have merchandise for sale because I need a "Let The Dancing Do The Talking" shirt on my boday! (I'll probably get one for Janefer too because she's a huge Alejandro fan.)
