I don’t understand Sigma’s body measurements. Dick jokes aside - I want to talk about his height and weight.
I can’t find Sigma’s official height. I can see that he is taller than Carlos (the second-tallest man in a group). And both of them are not Japanese (like Junpei), so they have to be worldwide average-to-tall. My first guess is that Junpei is something like 175 cm (5′ 9″), Carlos is at least 180 cm (5′ 11″) but probably taller, and Sigma is considerably taller than Carlos, so he is at least 190 cm (6′ 3″). And I actually think that Sigma must be taller, as people comment on his outstanding build, and the game makes sure to show him as a tall one by specific camera angles and other things like that.
We all know Sigma’s official weight - it’s 188 pounds (stated in the game). I’m used to metric system, and it’s 85 kg. That is much less than I expect a buff tall man to weight. A 190 cm (6′ 3″) man who weights 85 kg (188 lbs) must be kind of slender. He can be toned and muscled, but still not buff, and not big as Sigma. To be as broad as Sigma while weighting his stated weight Sigma must be not taller than 185 cm (6′ 1″). This is not really tall by my own standards, but I guess Japanese team can have different thoughts on that matter. And this makes the rest of the team members kind of short. Carlos becomes something like 175, Junpei is 170 (as well is Eric) and everyone else is just tiny.
ZTD takes place in USA and most participants are from there. Average height in USA is 175.7 cm (5' 9") for men and 161.8 cm (5' 3 1⁄2") for women (info from the Internet). By no means a 185cm/85 kg (6′ 1″/188 lbs) man can be considered very tall and big in a country where other people are not really that much smaller. He is taller than average, but nothing more. The example of a body like this is maybe Cristiano Ronaldo (who is not a big man, but is taller than average and very fit). This is very disappointing and somewhat inconsistent. Just because I had an impression that Sigma was huge.
I’m trying to understand where those measurements (188 lbs) came from. Who and why decided that Sigma weights that much. I’ve searched the web for human measurements, including “average male height” and “average male weight” adding “by country”. One of the first results Google shows me is a bizarre page that says a medium built 6′ 3″ (193 cm) man weights 167-182 lbs (78-85 kg) and a large man of the same height weights 176-202 lbs (82-94 kg). This is ridiculous.
And a 6′ 1″ (185 cm) man with a large frame must weight 168-192 lbs (76-87 kg). I want to go back and remember Ronaldo who’s pictures you can find with ease. The second example is basically his measurements. And he doesn’t have a large frame. He is fit, he looks very good, but he is medium-framed. Data on the same page says he must weight 15-20 lbs less (~10 kg less). Imagine him loosing that much weight. How would he look? Not so athletic anymore.
The data on those pages with statistics is kind of strange - some things don’t add up between US and metric systems, I suspect lots of mistakes. I also looked up info for bodybuilders. I’m not saying Sigma is one, but his ingame model is rather big and broad - bigger than his concept-art picture. A bodybuilder weights 40-50 lbs more (~20-25 kg more) than those strange average men of the large build that were measured by someone somewhere to be put on the first page of Goolgle results.
After all the searching I just want to say two things:
1. No matter how tall is Sigma (as long as he is 6′ 1″/185 cm or higher) I think he must weight more than 188 lbs (85 kg). 210-220 lbs (95-100 kg) minimum, maybe.
2. No developer/writer ever should just use random Google results to add details to their stories.
Feel free to disagree with me if you are a large but very light man or if you have a friend/relative like that. Please also send pictures ;D
