the whole 'relationship' between link and zelda in botw/totk is soooo fucking lackluster and blah compared to how much the games want to push it as some emotional core, even though zelda is doing literally all of the work with changing her behavior and initiating interaction and doing things for link while you never see link do anything outside of his job and basic human decency and stuff for the sake of the entire world. its so incredibly one-sided and even on the one side it's incredibly half-baked and poorly developed and results in the abandonment of a potentially interesting zelda characterization into just pretty maiden princess who is devoted to link. its all zelda going out of her way to do things and on link/the player's end it's just save the world and get zelda as the reward. she is narratively and mechanically just a prize at the end and not in the story and not in the gameplay is link really displayed ever doing anything extra for her or really indicating an especially strong fondness for her, romantic or otherwise. for all the bullshit these games let you do you never get the option to decide to do something extra nice for zelda. youre just benefitting from stuff she does for link or tying up loose ends left by her. this 'relationship' sucks on like every level like at what point of it does any consideration of them having actual chemistry based on their personalities factor in
