When he and Laurance do their little team up in the Nether, Laurance bullies him relentlessly for it. Whenever Zenix whips out a “bloody hell” (his favorite saying) Laurance will parrot back a “bloody ‘ell mate” in Garroth’s dumb accent and Zenix is trying so so hard to resist the urge to maim him

I like writing aus where Zenix doesn’t betray Garroth because I’m the World’s Biggest Sucker for the trope of a character trying to do an evil act to prove themself worthy to a villian and being incapable of doing it for the simple fact that they care too much about who it would hurt.

but Garroth turns around. He sees Zenix with blood-red eyes and unfathomable anger. He sees Zenix with trembling fingers, prepared to kill.

and suddenly Zenix can’t let the arrow fly. He wants to. He so desperately wants to, but his body doesn’t let them.

They stand there, for a moment, under the dappled moonlight, critters rustling in the bushes. The silence is deafening.
