Sneak Peek - “Disability”
My Zhongli story is almost done. It’s going to be a doozy though. Over 4,000 words... again. I’m starting to think I’m incapable of writing short drabbles (o-_-o). That’s a skill I should probably figure out at some point. But whatever. Here’s a sneak peek!
The first time you and Zhongli met, Zhongli was absolutely certain he had seen you somewhere before. But his mind was unusually - and unnaturally - blank on the matter. How could he remember everything and yet not remember you?
Then, when he noticed the vision on your hip, it all came back to him. He did remember you. Just a much younger you. An eight-year-old you, climbing the mountains with your father back when the treasure hoarders were less of a threat and more of a nuisance. He’d given you your vision when some rocks had fallen around the pair of you, trapping you against the mountainside. It had been a miracle they hadn’t crushed you in the first place, but with your father stuck on one side and you unable to call out for help, Zhongli had done what seemed right; he gave you a chance to save yourself. And you had on instinct, shoving a hole in the rocks big enough to set yourself free. Zhongli had gone on that day, satisfied that he’d given a vision to the right person.
But now, somewhere around two decades later, there you were. The more Zhongli looked at you, the more he saw that young child he’d helped so many years ago. Maybe it was in the shape of your eyes or the curve of your nose that mimicked your father’s. Maybe it was that hair that hadn’t seemed to change in all these years. You were, at the very least, taller. About as tall as the gentleman who seemed to be talking to you, hands very firmly planted on the table in front of him.
Which was odd since Zhongli knew you were deaf.
