Rant about your boy Vex?

BOY CAN I!!!

Where do I start, hmm....

Vex is a bit of a lost soul, in every sense of the word. He was kidnapped as a child, unspeakable things happened to him, and now he's somewhat of a fugitive trying to stay under the radar and make ends meet. He has been mutated by means unknown which is why he has a tail and is Weird in other ways also. He is force sensitive and trained to use it, but chooses not to most of the time so he doesn't draw attention to himself. He's kind of an asshole and quite cynical, but who wouldn't be after being tortured for years. He definitely wants to do good, but doesn't know how. He feels displaced in his new reality after escaping captivity but doesn't feel like he can return home out of fear of putting his family in danger. And also he's Weird now and scared of what his family will think of him. But it's definitely more of the former. Right? Right.

He's really special to me in a lot of ways, he was my first "main" character. I had made a lot before him but he was the only one I latched onto for some reason. If you want to know more about his development, keep reading:

This was his first design :) He's also officially 10 years old this year! He was never meant to be a serious character, just a silly "scene dragon" cause I was on DA at the time. But then I got into RP and ended up coming with fun ideas for him and developed his personality a lot more and wanted to make a humanoid version of him too.

So then this version of him was born:

I think because I did so much RP with him, I ended up pouring a lot of myself into him which is why he ended up sticking with me for so long. He was definitely still his own character, but I used him as a venting tool a lot. This was also around the same time my old friend and I decided to ship our characters. They asked if they could include him in their story and so for a while that was mostly his "canon" version and that looked like this:

It was fun for a while but because I felt like so much of him represented myself I eventually became uncomfortable with the shipping and I wanted a little more control over his character and story again, something that wasn't collaborative, and that also happened to be the time when I was getting back into Star Wars so I thought it would be fun to make an AU version of him for that, thus Vex was born!

I feel like there is so much more I could say about him but I think it would be incomprehensible to most everyone except for myself because it would be tangential. I don't draw him as much as I used to because it feels weird sometimes since I'm grown and married now and I'm also in a much healthier place mentally, but it doesn't change the fact that he means a lot to me and will probably never go away. I don't have his story super fleshed out so I don't want to share too much in that regard. He is just a human(?) going through it and figuring out how to be a good person. He doesn't have it all figured out but I'm rooting for him.
