Rhys doesn’t know what he expects to see walking into the old, abandoned Atlas HQ building, but the sight nevertheless takes his breath away. He’s only ever been to the planet Promethea once during his internship-- “proof of Handsome Jack’s power” or whatever the hell, considering it was Hyperion’s destruction of Atlas that led to Promethea’s decay-- but the tour guide hadn’t deemed it fit to enter the empty buildings that’d once been the heart of the galaxy’s finest megacorporation. This is the first time he’s been inside and, honestly, he’s likely more impressed than he should be considering its state of decay.
“And here I thought the facility at Old Haven was amazing,” Rhys murmurs, approaching the statue of Atlas in the lobby and delicately brushing dust aside with his metal palm. “This place is huge.”
It needs a lot of TLC, of course. There’s dust everywhere, and a lot of the furniture’s been looted, and what windows aren’t barred up after Atlas’ closure have been crashed through. But for all the challenge he’s been presented, Rhys smiles because he’s not going into this alone.
Standing there with his hands on his hips, Rhys looks around at a place that’ll be his, and he knows he’s got Loader Bot, and Gortys, and a group of reformed bandits from Pandora wanting a fresh start, and a number of Prometheans more than ready to bring their planet back to life, and for a moment he lets himself feel hope. Feel joy. Jack had asked him once what he would’ve done had he been Hyperion’s CEO, and Rhys hadn’t been lying when he said he wanted to make things better. “Better” is why he left home, after all.
Turning to look at his immediate companion, he gives Zer0 a grin and a friendly clap on the shoulder. “I’m glad you came with me today, buddy. Let’s check the place out-- hopefully the rooms won’t collapse on us while we’re here.”
