Gray Reunion Part II
Gray reunion “Part I” took place six years ago. Reunion Part I and Part II were unsurprisingly familiar, all the way down to the part where we have to dial 9-1-1 and receive medical assistance. We’re hoping that the third time’s a charm so when next we gather here…
…on the Gray farm in another five or six years, maybe we can skip the ambulance part.
I mean, it’s really such an oasis without the…

Zero Impact Running Just Upped Your Mileage
Last Thursday I went to a Fitfluential event from Octane Fitness. Octane Fitness is a company that makes low impact exercise equipment. They were holding this event because they just launched a brand new machine call the Zero Runner. This really appealed to me because, if you can remember, I had a really hard time training for the NYC Marathon. I over trained and didn't cross train, which left me a complete mess at marathon day. One of the major reasons for over training was that I just didn't feel like I was really working out if I wasn't running. So I ran, and ran too much.
I got to meet Olympic runner, Carrie Tollefson!
The Zero Runner allows runners to train smarter. It gives you a tool that allows us to have an active recovery, with zero impact all the while using the same muscles used while running outdoors (full range of motion, too!). It is also a great way to break up the long runs (especially as the days are getting shorter and colder.)
The thing that I really loved about this machine is that it features gait tracing so you can monitor if your gait changes throughout the workout. Not running correctly and/or not focusing on proper form while running was a huge issue for me last year. Part of the problem was that I couldn't feel how my gait changed as my muscles fatigued.
One thing I thought was really cool, and somewhat surprising, was that the Zero Runner didn't need to be plugged in and it was completely quiet. You don't need to blast your TV or music while using it. It just hooks up wirelessly to your iPad and tracks your workout on their app.
We all got to try it out and let me tell you, it felt like running, well, running on air. It did not feel like an elliptical. It took a second to get used to it, but after I did, it was a lot of fun!
All in all, it was a really great event. After I fell apart at the NYC marathon last year, I am absolutely more open to running alternatives and cross-training. The Zero Runner was great because it feels like you are actually running, but doesn't shock your body with any impact. It was also so nice to see some familiar faces (hey, Evan!) and I finally got to meet some blogging friends IRL (I'm looking at you, Christine, Michele and Grace)
Connect with them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you want to learn more about Zero Running, check out their website.
