new story idea i just had while thinking about my “paranormal investigator but with a demon robot sidekick” story:

world where magic exists, but can only be used by robots, because reasons (i actually do have reasons in mind, ive got a couple ideas im hammering out). so people make small animal-shaped constructs as familiars that are sapient enough to cast magic but are dependent on the master they’re bound to, and that’s who wizards are, is people who have familiars who cast magic for them. making a familiar look too realistic or trying to pass them off as just a pet or something is illegal, and so is making a familiar above a certain size category (larger familiars can channel more magic, so really big ones are reserved for certain purposes and are pretty highly regulated). making a specifically humanoid construct is extra illegal, not to mention pretty taboo.

so naturally, the story will follow a humanoid caster who looks realistic enough to pass for human, which is a good thing, because they don’t know who made them or why and it would be very bad for them if they were discovered while they try and figure it out.

Melancholic Melody

Zero loves to play the piano at the base from time to time, when she isn't out on a mission. Her friends tend to listen to it even though she mostly plays sorrowful tones.

Some ask her why she plays so many sad songs but she doesn't really know why. She just says that it makes her nostalgic and that she feels like she might remember something when she starts playing.

Sometimes Eva sings while Zero plays the piano, so they are basically doing a little concert. Usually a bit of drinking is in order after they finish playing because the woe gets to them. But occasionally they just do it for fun; those times they actually do happy/upbeat songs.

After regaining her memories: She now also plays as a tribute to her fallen comrades, to those who have died during Operation Queenslayer and to those who have succumbed to frenzy and became Lost. And as a tribute to Io's noble sacrifice.

Some art for the soul. Me and my friendo @furawaume came up with a nice slice-of-life story for a bunch of our characters and it engaged me so much that i can barely think of anything else recently  characters on the right belong to @furawaume

Dozing off

Did y'all know that if you wait enough time when you're sitting somewhere at the base, then your character will start dozing off and then if you wait even more they will eventually start sleeping? It's a really nice and subtle detail that I found out by accident.

im working on redoing one of my story settings, and i may have just fixed several major problems i was having by just giving the main characters a teenager to reluctantly adopt. all problems can be solved with found family
