Old school work Original was A3, contrast and a lot of quality was lost when it was scanned, sadly.
More mapping, unfinished.
Decided to take a quick study of a photograph. The overweight dwarf who is looking towards the camera is me. And sadly, I took a double check on the proportions and they are correct. If I lost some weight at least I'd look a bit smarter. An hour of work.
Referencing and copyright
I am not a particularly skilled artist yet. I really want to get to a level with technique and vision that I can make design work of my own. I want to execute portraits that have that special "likeness" of the person they are supposed to depict. I want to create landscapes that are quick, yet give the best impression and feeling they possibly can.
I do a lot of referencing for my practices, especially portrait ones. It's a really easy and fast way to do drawing. Just go to the internet, google or search from an image uploading service like Flickr for the right reference picture. But there is a problem.
Copyright is something to be taken seriously. While referencing a photographer's work in a drawing might not be very harmful (especially if you yourself don't have much skill or fame), it's still a questionable thing to do. Copyrights vary from situation to situation, but ultimately the best rule would be to always at least ask the original work's owner and creator whether the work can be used as a reference.
I haven't. I have credited each and every reference based work I've uploaded to a public site.
While I gather the skills and experience to be a better artist, I think I'll start moving away from using internet references. It's just legally more stable way to work. I don't actually expect to get sued by something like referencing a picture from the internet, but I really believe in the right to have your own work remain as yours completely. Untouched and unaltered craft of your own is important to have. Plus it teaches me to be more active with my reference searching. For one, I have to start making my own photography.

Lack of updates
Apologies. I have been in and out of hospital for two weeks. I am an auto-immune patient, with a rare MPGN Type II -type of kidney disease, and I have had the disease since I was three, so there is nothing new about that. The trouble now has been that I have had bad blood test results. Low energy, upper stomach pains, which were mainly due to the fact that I had a low hemoglobin. So it seems that the home dialysis treatment plan that I was in wasn't effective enough so I am going to switch to a night time home dialysis, which should prove better. I might have also caught a little bug somewhere which has disappeared by now, which made things worse.
Anyway, back to business. It is still going to be some time before any actual updates on the rule system blog. Busy Uni schedule and all, but I try to catch on this project in a while.
