Well, it has finally happened: someone copied one of my pieces and now is selling prints of it.
Not on here, this is not vague posting about anyone present, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say two things:
1. If you want to reference my work or use it as a jumping-off point or even do a master study, that is great. We learn from each other. I have done master studies and they are so helpful. If you post it, just credit me!
2. If you do any of those things and make a piece you love, that's fine, but if it's a direct copy, please don't sell prints of it. I am a full-time working artist. This is my entire career. It directly hurts me to do this and it's also just very uncool. In the age of AI stealing work, human artists don't need to be doing the same.
Feeling pretty yuck about it but it is what it is!
If you see art of a random character wearing a specific outfit in a specific pose, is it wrong or "copying" if you draw art of a DIFFERENT character in the same outfit and pose?
Yes, it's always wrong– it was the original artist's idea, not yours
It's only wrong if you don't credit the original artist for the idea
Only wrong if the outfit/pose/etc is HIGHLY specific or original
Not wrong as long as you alter it somehow/put your own spin on it
It's not wrong at all, artists take inspiration from each other all the time
Other nuanced opinion
I don't care about this

I will give myself a DITYS for this LawLu scene…
I will copy this scene with my own additions for an upcoming lulaw fic…
I am fired up!
I will prove that anyone who can use a pencil, like I do, can do a better job at copying then any stupid GenAi 😂 and make it look human.
just a thought
i've seen some people that i follow here on tumblr go on hiatus. mostly in the kpop community.
i haven't been a fan of kpop for long, but i noticed that some of the fans are soo toxic. obviously this exists in every fandom, but with kpop, fans get mad over nothing.
if you think that a writer uses ai or copies someone, ask them. be forward. ofc everyone is gonna say no, because who would really say it?
immediately accusing someone is wrong. some people have so much passion for writing, and then one comment like 'you use ai' or 'i've seen something like this before' is gonna burn their motivation.
if you really think something is eerily similar to someone else's work, then make sure it is. read the one you think it's similar to and really think about it. people just send links to the other writer and tell them that someone's copying them (which is the right thing to do, but only if it's true). i've seen people immediately tell writers that someone copies them just because the two writers got the same request, which is simply wrong.
please don't forget that the people behind the screens are human too. even if it's right, do not go and insult them. this is childish and immature. i can understand anger because of this, because they gained fans through ai or copying, but insulting is not the right thing to do.
we are all human and we all make mistakes. educate people and tell them it's wrong, don't insult them. let's be aware that our words affect people.
spread love💕
