(Argh….. my brain won’t work. Todays one gonna b short. My eyes are red. I’ve been burning. I’ve been burning…..) - Random. Completely random. - “What…” It thought, it said, its voice a rasp and crackle.
It blinked, and a thin film of oil glinted sluggishly over the convex curve of its eyeball. The pupil like a vignette to the bright colours reflected.
Dusky pale arms flexed, slowly, unfolding from where they curled up in sleep. Its dark skin an ashen tint of soil as the being awoke from its hibernation. With hair long and wispy, so thin that the light of dawn cast it in an auburn glow. And a jawline so strong in its clear defined angles.
Male or female. This being belonged to neither. Yet both, at the same time.
The onlookers stood frozen. Frozen like the capsule they had activated. Frozen like the planet they found it on.
It rose as its limbs raised it up. Levering it into a seated position. Its back straightened, and its hair tumbled just past its broad shoulders. Slender arms laying limp at its side, as frail looking fingers tested its strength in a clenched fist.
The onlookers stared. Eyes wide. Fascinated.
The being stared back. Enraptured.
“Who are you?” It spoke, to the onlookers, as a collective whole. Not just to one.
The crystal clear voice of the being awoke the onlookers from their frozen trance. Each, one by one, looked to the other conveying the unspoken words.
One stepped forth, her chin lifting, her chest expanding with breath.
“We are humans.”
