I have seen it making the rounds that the peaceful take over of power in Zimbabwe has to do with the country's high literacy rate and I doubt if this has to do with literacy than some other factors. Zimbabwe formerly Rhodesia suffered greatly. There was genocide there that has not been properly acknowledged, reported and taught. Such actions against collective humans breaks spirits. (I.e why and how do we still have Christianity or Islam en masse in Africa, among Blacks and they told to obey and not to question and they do it?) Robert Mugabe got his motivation from Ghana and what is Ghana known for? - fierce independent spirit, Kwame Nkrumah, Yaa Asantewah, Sergeant Adjetey and yes Vodoun etc. We know that the captured slaves mostly from West Africa fought the despicable Whiteman that did the dastardly against us. US Virgin Islands is populated by descendants of Akwamu state that sacked a British governor from Osu castle. In the Carolinas, Louisiana etc you see the legacy of Vodoun that the slaves mainly from. West Africa relied on for protection support etc. Then there is Haiti that rose with anger against this low form of humans. Besides, what is literacy? Knowing the ways of the whiteman and what he has imposed or knowing the ways of the Black person? Thankfully so far we have not seen bloodshed in Zimbabwe even as we know people around Mugabe including people who deposed him are not that clean and have had their hands in Zimbabwe national cake unfairly. Then there is the underreported suppression of the Ndebele tribe by Mugabe and Nnamangwa's Shona tribe. Still, Mugabe did his bit. He is now a docile 93 year old man headed to meet and account to the ancestors. We wait with hope for Zimbabwe to bounce back - Dzifah Hiatsi
