Were people meant to disappear like gusts of wind? Zion couldn't pinpoint the exact memory of you storming out the door once he had confessed, but since then it was like you were a ghost. All the calls and texts he left remained unanswered, none of them even read. He drove to all of your friends houses and your brothers house and you weren't staying with any of them. Eerily, you had vanished. You had become a ghost that would haunt his word with teasing love and warmth that he would never again be able to grasp.
Each day Zion woke up with a dull throb in his skull, the effects of softly crying himself to sleep every night. Anyone looking would have called him a cry baby and said he was over reacting too much. That after two weeks, he shouldn't be so torn up, he should be healing by now. Zion couldn't answer any question to why he just couldn't get over this whole ordeal. Or maybe he could. Maybe, the truth was that he just couldn't face what happened in this whole ordeal.
Zion had never thought he'd be a cheater. Especially not a cheater who cheated on you. He was in love. He absolutely adored you.
Zion saw pretty girls everywhere, but it almost seemed as if God made it impossible for any of them to be even the slightest bit prettier than his Y/n. He had met many funny girls, girls that could give even professional comics a run for their money, but they couldn't make him laugh until is stomach hurt like you did. They could be exciting, adventurous, clever, sweet, but the one thing they couldn't do was compare to you. You were special, his special baby and no one could make 'the' Zion Kuwonu as happy as you did. Zion was more than positive that he could never find a love more deep and fluid than the one he had for you.
If anything was sure in this situation, it was that Zion could not just let you walk out of his life. He thought for a moment that that was selfish, he had betrayed you in the worst possible way and you were hurting. You most likely did not want him back. But he already had it made up in his mind that he would be chasing after you anyway. Until the sun couldn't rise anymore, that boy would chase after you. So, when Zion woke up the next day he called everybody he could think of that you were close to. He would find you, you couldn't hide from him. He was too desperate and too determined for any of your attempts to be successful. Sure enough, Zion had struck gold after calling your father all the way back in your home town. Mr. Y/l/n didn't seem to be angry, so Zion could only assume you hadn't told him what happened. He was grateful for that, it made it an awful lot easier to convince your dad to let him come for a 'surprise' visit when he didn't know what Zion had really done. But still, the edge was not taken off because once he got you back, Zion was going to be with you forever and no respectable man would hide and lie about the trials of his relationship to his, one day, father in law.
Your hometown was a little while away from where you and Zion were living now. Within the next two days, Zion prepared himself and drove down. As he rode through the somewhat familiar streets that he had visited with you many times, Zion felt himself grow more and more nervous. It scared him to think you would turn him away, that he really had lost you for good. He had done the unthinkable and Zion was not dumb enough to believe he deserved your forgiveness. He could only hope you still had a shimmering light of love for him left in the pit of darkness he had caused.
Pulling into the gravel driveway seemed like the scariest part, but he knew that the worst was not over yet. When he opened the car and stepped out, he wasn't sure if the sensation of shaky legs was actually real or if his frantic mind only made him imagine it. Zion had never felt emotions like this in his life. Emotions that couldn't be described as anything but anxiety, fear, desperation, and shaky hopefullness all balled into one. To Zion, it seemed like the devils combination of feelings.
In small steps, he approached the door he hoped you were behind. His sweaty palms balled into fists and gently tapped on the door. In shame he kept his head down, and when he saw the door seperate from the space it was previously locked into, it felt like all he could do was take a breath. Take a breath, close his eyes, and slowly raise his head. Sure enough, you stood in front of him.
Zion gasped. Seeing you again after only being able to imagine you in teary memories was etheral. Your bright eyes, your glowing skin, your soft hair. You might as well have a glowing halo upon your head. He could see the tired look on your face and the pain in your iris' but you were still his beautiful angel.
"Y/n..."
Zion's voice was shaky as his lips curved around your sweet name. He couldn't help the tears building in his eyes because of the suffocating love that swelled his chest. While he was a tall man, Zion's body suddenly felt too small to bear all of the emotions he felt for you.
"Y/n... Y/n ... Can I hug you? Please.."
Zion felt dejected by the unsure and weary look on your face. A look that said you should be cautious of him, although, what exactly was he expecting? Asking you to engage in any kind of contact with him was selfish after what he’d done, he understood this much. He’s not quite sure why those words were the first to come out of his mouth. Zion could reason that he missed you so much he craved your touch on him. He was sure now that he needed your affection and love to survive so begging for you close after you had been so far must’ve been a reflex to him.
You had completely surprised him when you inched forward quietly and placed yourself in his arms. It was safe to say that the dam had broken loose, lamented cries escaped his lips as he secured you in his grip. Zion could feel you shaking beneath him, he only pulled you tighter. This is the last time he would ever hurt you like this. Sure, there will be times where you two will argue and fight but never again will he betray you in such a way. He had learned his lesson for sure.
“Y/n I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry baby.
I never meant to hurt you, or lose you, or ruin everything we have. I don’t even remember what happened, I was just drunk and sad and I woke up next to a random body and I swear my heart broke then and there. It hurt me to hurt you, I’ve learned my lesson. I love you so much and I won’t so much as speak to another female again. I won’t even look in another girls direction and to be honest I wouldn’t even want to. The only girl I need is you. I made a mistake, but it was just that. A mistake. And it won’t be repeated ever again.”
He had to take multiple breaths after he was finished pouring his heart out to you. Even then, that was not everything that he wanted to say to you, there was still more he wanted to explain and just let out because he loved you. And he wanted you to hear it, he wanted you to know with the depth of a thousand seas just how much he felt for you. You and Zion had always joked about your magical connection, the way your hearts were intertwined with an invisible string. Through this connection, ZIon knew that even though there was more he wanted to say, that was all you needed to hear. At least in this moment.
You sniffled and shook in his arms. It was tangy and delectable, to hold you again but watch you cry. Because of him. Zion nuzzled his head into your hair and placed sweet, reminding kisses on your crown. “I’m sorry baby. I’m so sorry. Sorry won’t fix it but it’s a start, isn’t it?”
You could only curl yourself into his arms further, the only place you ever wanted to be. The only place you could thrive.
Maybe you were being stupid, setting yourself up for more pain. More betrayal. But for right now, you were sure your heart had felt the sincerity in him. You trusted in him, maybe that was dumb. Even so, you wanted to at least love him this one last time. If he hurt you again, if he stayed with you forever, time will only tell.
“It is, Zion. It is.”
