with as much self-control as he can muster, the door slides shut behind him, leaving nothing but the two of them and the long silent walk to that isolated table. it was a table that felt a million miles away from even the smallest semblance of safety, where time stood still, and there was nothing you could do but face all manner of demons the longer you sat.
there’s truth to the statement: he no longer visited as often as he had when he was younger. it could, in part, be due to how busy things tend to get outside of the main house, but in actuality, his own negligence is to blame. any and every chance to avoid it being the two of them is a chance he’d gladly take, no matter how seemingly insignificant.
