I’ve just seen the above public post. Which I’ve screen capped …. I’ve read a few like this, some which I have shared on my feed before, this post didn’t make me angry like previous posts have but it did inspire the following thoughts ….
PS I just wrote an absolute essay of a post and then lost it somehow so I’m guessing that was the universes way of telling me not to send it.
Instead I’ll repeat what I said before…
I love social media and EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinions. I also love sharing backstage photos and info. However… More often than not they are met with negativity.
In world where social media is so accessible, think to yourself, would I say EXACTLY what I am typing to somebody’s face if I had the chance to speak to them.
Discussing my costume is one thing, discussing what I look like in it is another.
Typing that some one looks “awful/ a monstrosity/ ghastly” is all very well but if you had the chance to meet them face to face would you choose those exact words?
I am more than happy to talk openly about the costume changes, share info on the design process and why the original designers chose the new costumes. You never know we might share similar opinions!
I saw a tweet that said “ whoever designed the new costumes should be sacked” . I wasn’t the only one who saw this tweet. The original designers can see this too. Why spread such brash negativity on social media when it can be used as a platform to learn and ask questions. As performers, some of us, (me included) choose to share sections of what goes on.. Rather than “go off one one for hours” in a anonymous inbox, why not use this as an opportunity to ask questions …
This tweet is not angry or hate felt or aimed at the author of the above post. I just urge people to think about what you’re typing and whether or not you would say exactly what your typing to somebody’s face. If you would … Then by all means continue …
Inspired by @carriehopefletcher s recent post , let’s try and keep social media a place to learn and share rather than insult and attack .
PS again do not spread hate to the original author, Everyone is entitled to their opinion and obviously it was a public post and in no way insulting. It just inspired a thought process :) :) PPS … This is a late night post with hardly any punctuation, and contains a questionable use of grammar !!!!
