Zombie Apocalypse Scenarios for Women and Girls

Or, technically, things that I overthink that no one else does:

- Periods. Just...in these apocalyptic games/books/movies...it is literally never mentioned? Like ever? The only time I have seen it mentioned is in Telltale's TWD season 3. And even then Clem nonchalantly goes "I've started bleeding...down there" AS IF YOU WOULD NOT BE FREAKING THE FUCK OUT CONSIDERING YOU HAD NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF PERIODS BEFOREHAND!! And then to top it off it is waved away in two seconds by Javi handing her a box of pads/tampons and a VERY brief explanation of why it happens.

I was like ?? That's it?? Girl, if you had already started your period before that took place I GUARANTEE you would have blood stained undies and pants rn.

Do women and girls in these scenarios have to carry a bunch of spare undies?? Or one pair of undies and pants that they just stew in for a week?? HOW DO IT WORK, WRITERS?! I GOTS TO KNOW

And on top of that! Zombies are often able to smell people. Does the smell mask the scent? Or does it attract them?! That could be a legit interesting plot point on a story like all the men are being attacked but the women aren't oh welp turns out they synched up and it deters attacks !?

And even then, what about dealing with the pain? You're telling me, that girls and women in a zombie apocalypse are gonna be able to run, leap and fight with cramps, back pain and headaches?? With no problems whatsoever?! I have had pains that literally rendered me incapable of anything more than light breathing without severe pains, and you're telling me that women will have to just live as if that shit doesn't happen?

And you might say "they can just take panadol-" NO. You think, in a world with scarce supplies and medicine, that people are gonna use them willy-nilly each month because of their periods? Nahhh man. People would be hoarding medicine like it was G O L D, in case something life threatening occured.

Is it just me? Am I thinking too much about fictional zombie apocalypses?

ALSO off topic but semi related: I hate women being totally hairless on their bodies in zombie games/movies. Total bullshit. Even the highest regarded games (TLoU I'm lookomg at you) have female characters with hairless arms and armpits (Tess, Ellie) and it does my HEAD in. Like you think these total BAMFS are shaving their pits at times like this? Nah man, they be using the razors in those nail bombs you be crafting.

Surely the title is a dead giveaway, repeated in the refrain.  The ONLY LIVING Boy in New York.  The last man.  The last survivor.  But this isn’t a wasteland New York.  There are other Boys in New York.  They just aren’t

Living.

This clues us in to the shape of our particular end of the world in this song.  I assert this is a

Zombie Apocalypse

Let us go to the simple, seductive lyrics of the song to discover more.

Tom is leaving.  Flying out in a plane, escaping the carnage of the metropolis for the warmer climes of Mexico.  For a place where the undead menace does not rule the streets.

Here we get some clues as to the conditions that Tom is fleeing.  The most pertinent information our Holy Author needs is the weather.  Why?  Well obviously, the Yankees aren’t playing anymore.  Traffic is nil.  Why the weather?  Because the zombies don’t like the rain.  He plans his scavenging excursions based around how active the mindless horde of brain feasters is likely to be, when he can leave his barricaded shelter.  Today?  Today all he can do is smile.  Not laugh, not sing, not hunt.  They are close, children.  Moaning, clawing at the boarded up door to the abandoned tenement he has claimed as his sanctuary.  He must be quiet, still.  He must smile, to keep himself from succumbing to despair.  Smile.  Smile.

This, I think, holds the darkest secret of the whole tale.  The Author doesn’t know where he is half the time. He’s gone. 

He’s bitten.  He’s turning, but this isn’t a magical zombie curse...it’s your more scientific variety, it’s a process, a disease that slowly takes over. 

Tom, get your plane right on time I know that you’ve been eager to fly now Hey, let your honesty shine, shine, shine Like it shines on me

Tom has been eager to fly now.  He’s escaping the monster that his best friend Jerry is becoming.  That honesty that he left was that his days as “the only living boy in New York” were numbered.  That once Tom left, once Jerry turned, there would be none.  No life, no boys.  Just the sun shining down on another zombie.

I find it unbelievably ironic that my best friend and I have a suicide pact, but we’ve also decided if there’s ever a zombie apocalypse we’re both gonna kill ourselves. Lmao.
