A secular witch is a witch who practices their magic without involving religion. Traditionally, that means that they do not work with deities, especially those that they may worship (I say especially because I do know witches who identify as secular who still work with deities, they just don’t worship them). Secular witches can involve spirits/otherly entities in their practice, but again, their witchcraft is separate from their religion. You can be a secular witch and worship gods, it’s just a matter of whether or not you involve your magic/witchcraft with your religious practices. For example, Wiccans practice religious magic— Wicca is a religion that involves magic, and so by definition, Wiccans are not secular witches.
As for me, I’m a Hellenic polytheist, but my patrons are not a part of my witchcraft practice for reasons I’d rather not go into right now. My witchcraft is separate from my religion. Thus, I identify as a secular witch.
I think it’s super important to remember that magic and witchcraft by themselves are inherently secular. They are a non-religious (secular) craft or a practice that people may incorporate into their religious beliefs or form their beliefs around.
