A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 74
Episode Title: The Manga Writer Becomes A Pro, After Doing A Stock Of Manuscripts
MY 8 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 74 (manga chaps 133 and 134):
I didn’t like the Zombrows at all: they were freaking creepy, but probably because zombie movies in general usually scare me (even though I still like to watch them) and this definitely had Night of the Living Dead/Dawn of the Dead vibes.
1) Zura is so adorably goofy as usual; I love it when he pops up in an episode since hilarity (sometimes on the meta level) usually ensues.
2) Zura being all proud that Gin-chan used his nickname for the unibrow zombies (it was translated as “zombrows” in the manga, but in the anime, it was “mayuzoms”...but I’m guessing they’re the same thing).
3) I actually never paid attention to this until now (namely because this is like only the second time I actually watched this episode all the way through since I found the zombrows freaking disturbing): in the manga, the monkeys’ planet were called Kong Planet, but in the anime, it became Shojo Planet...which I guess Sorachi-sama later decided to adapt since Princess Bubbles planet went from Gorilla to Shojo in the recent arc.
4) Kagura’s food baby is super adorable.
5) Tae-chan naturally becoming the leader of the zombrows because she is the strongest and deadliest.
6) Poor Zura being abandoned by the others to a clearly infected Elizabeth.
7) I still do not understand why Sacchan was carrying all these razors on her, but I’m glad they came in handy.
8) I know the whole thing was a tribute to a Jump mangaka’s 30th anniversary, but since I’m not familiar with his work, I couldn’t really appreciate most of the references. I just thought Gin-chan looked cool at the end.
SHIPS TALLY:
Zura x Elizabeth: I guess if Zura had to die or become zombified by anyone, he would be happiest if Elizabeth was the one to do it.
Gintoki x Zura: obviously Gintoki beats the shit out of Zura because he knows he can since they are that close.
Gintoki x Sacchan: I was actually surprised at how little attention Sacchan paid to Gintoki...you’d think what with the impending zombrowpocalypse, she would try to get with him every second to propagate the human race.
Shinpachi x Hasegawa: at one point, Pachi-kun was willing to risk his life and get infected just to save Madao, his willingness to sacrifice himself was sweet but also a little unexpected. Didn’t even think he cared that much about Madao. No one else did.
Sacchan x Manager: that was so random.
Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just completely unbelievably amazing. It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s immense generosity that I am able enjoy Gintama on an extra another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.
