[Armored Omnic References] - Part 4: Automatons and Miscellaneous

If you are unaware, the full title of Bastion is SST Laboratories Siege Automaton E54, “Bastion". Junkenstein’s zomnics are also called automatons in his comic. As far as I can guess, automatons are slightly more humanoid and expressive than drones, and probably more prone to autonomous (get it) behavior.

For this post, I have included some odd stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else, like the Junkenstein A.U. omnic spider (?) and the Athena tank (????).

Legend:

Left: Athena tank from the Overwatch Cinematic Trailer. Right: Athena body concept art, Athena logo. This tank is probably the strangest thing I’ve found while looking through the official media. It’s only available in glimpses in the background of the cinematic trailer as a display in Numbani museum, but it clearly fits the aesthetic of the previously seen Athena body concept, and bears Athena’s logo on its forehead. The first Athena concept is from the Overwatch pitch deck, very early concept art used to pitch the game. The character’s name at that point was “Iris”, even though there was also a location in the pitch deck called “The Iris” (it likely evolved into Nepal Sanctum - see this post for more info).
