what if we plant flowers in mordor
headcanon:
legolas wanders for a long time after the War of the Ring. He had to face a lot of stuff during that time that was just absolutely gut wrenchingly devastating for him. He & Boromir were very close, and Legolas having to come to terms with mortality for the very first time is just a huge change for him. His only mortal friend before Boromir was Aragorn, and Aragorn doesn't age as fast as normal men so Legolas hadn't really ever thought about him dying.
He struggles with a lot of survivor guilt and sometimes he looks up at the sky and almost misses the ash on the horizon, misses the danger, the fear, the secrecy. He feels guilty and tries not to think about it so even he doesn't realize that what he really misses is having a purpose.
He feels stuck and stagnant and so he goes to Aragorn to get advice (even ancient elven princes need advice) and is horrified to see that not only has Aragorn aged, so has Arwen.
All of his kindred have left and he feels like the lone survivor as everyone who lived through the horror he did is slowly... dying.
Headcanon:
Sam & Rosie, after their marriage, journey to where Mordor was together with their children. They settle in ithilien and Sam makes it his life's mission to turn where the site of so much pain was into a garden.
Headcanon: in legolas's wandering, he finally goes to Mordor only to find it covered in flowers. Sam is long gone. Arwen is long dead. Machinery clanks in the distance but Mordor is covered in flowers. And Legolas weeps softly.

oooooof this is a hard one man
i don't have a favourite because I think all animals are cool BUT one that I'm particularly looking forward to seeing (I'm about to go on a trip to visit a zoo that has them) is Hyacinth macaws. They're the biggest kind of macaw and they're gorgeous.
