Let's talk Zoophobia Ships: Fabian x Simon

So, let's hit the next target on @aaron-henderson 's list of requested ships. This is a surprisingly popular ship, at least from what I can tell. Ah, well, I guess we're all suckers for an enemies to lovers or lovers to enemies relationship, amirite?

Let's start with how these two might get together....

A popular trend I see in this ship is Simon being an ex lover of Fabian. Now, from what we know of Fabian, he used to be "wilder" when I was younger and I believe he may have a hippie? Who knows, maybe Fabian was so wild, he'd date a vampire.

The most common thing people do is to focus on the relationship after the two have broken up, but hear me out, if Simon was previously dating Fabian, I'd actually like to see what was happening there.

Something I thought of was a scenario where Simon, who is just starting out as a vampire, goes to a hippie bar to see if he can score an easy victim. But when he tries to prey upon Fabian, a bunch of stuff happens, and Simon ends up waking up the next day with no idea what happened and now he's dating Fabian for some reason. I just find this to be a humorous set up to a funny story depicting the relationship between these two.

If you lot aren't a fan of a fun, light take on this, I think my inner edge lord can give you a more somber scenario. In this scenario, the relationship takes place before Simon becomes a vampire, and he's in a relationship with Fabian while Fabian is... doing whatever he was doing back in the day. However, the relationship becomes rocky as Fabian gets into weirder shit, and Simon starts becoming dissatisfied with the relationship. Fabian doesn't notice that his boyfriend is unhappy until it's too late, and when he tries to keep Simon from doing something stupid, whoops, Simon is a vampire.

If we were to go with the idea of them getting back together, I would probably write a scenario where the two were stuck together. After all, I can't imagine that these two would hang out willingly, thus a romantic connection would be difficult to form. Perhaps Simon tries to manipulate Fabian into letting him go after he's been captured. This sparks a conversation where grievances are aired, and while nothing sparks between them yet, they at least end the conversation on better terms with each other.

I imagine a slow burn situation would be best for a pairing like this. The romantic connection doesn't start quickly, and it's built through the two interacting and understanding each other better. When they do start considering being in a relationship, they're reluctant, but they decide to give it a try.

With characters like these, the relationship itself would be rather interesting....

Ok, when I imagine these two dating, the first thing that comes to me is the idea that Fabian is constantly trying to cool Simon down. Whether it be through tea or a short quip, Fabian would have to be keeping Simon in check as Simon would probably be having issues with a lot of people. Simon acts annoyed by this, but he listens to Fabian, and leaves whatever issues he has there.

The two would occasionally bicker and bring up the past. Especially at the beginning, neither one is completely over it, but tensions finally start to die down. The two try to listen to one another, and Fabian especially pushes to have them deal with their issues. But not by themselves of course, but together.

Dates are rare, and Simon would be hesitant to be seen on a date with anyone. This, however, makes what few dates they have particularly special. Fabian acts more into it then Simon does, but Simon secretly enjoys it. The lack of dates is made up for by how often they see each other. They are constantly side by side, Fabian often giving the excuse that someone needs to keep an eye on Simon. Simon himself also seeks out Fabian when he can, but he denies enjoying his company to others.

Simon being a vampire does bring some inconveniences into the relationship. There's often the question of how the two of us are going to find blood and where are they going to get if from. Both are uneasy with Simon drinking Fabian's blood, so that outcome is avoided as much as possible. Some strings occasionally need to be pulled in order to solve this little issue, and the two don't talk about it much. Nonetheless, in a strange way, it brings them a little closer together.

I also like to think that they have this relationship where Simon is a fucking wreck aesthetically, and the more stylish Fabian tries to get him to not look like he just crawled out of a dumpster. Fabian will forbid Simon from going out in public without cleaning himself up. Simon is fine with putting little to no effort in his appearance, but over time it seems like Fabian is starting to influence him into thinking otherwise.

The two joke a lot about how strange it is for them to be in a relationship. This is part of how they express their feelings towards each other, by low key slipping in how much one appreciates the other. Simon also tries to tease Fabian by flirting with him, but Fabian rarely acts impressed. In fact, Fabian will often turn the tables and flirt with Simon, something that Simon can't handle.

There are a lot of dramatic ups and downs in this relationship, and at times it seems very on again, off again. It typically annoys people how often these two break up, and then immediately get back together over what seems to be the smallest things. The staff at ZPA have considered starting a drinking game surrounding these two due to how repetitive the relationship seems to be. They already place bets as to how many times will these two break up and get back together over the span of a month (Jackie and Alonzo always win)
