Tiger Tuesday, part 4

Story written and tiny book in hand, it was time to think about how I wanted my tiger to look. What makes a tiger look like a tiger and not a lion or a panther? The stripes, right? But how do you make a tiger look like a tiger if she doesn't have stripes? In order to figure that out I had to draw a lot of tigers! I worked from mostly photo references, but I also wanted to do some sketching from life, so I paid a visit to my local zoo. I even did a little sculpting to get a solid grip on tiger anatomy. (So what /does/ makes a tiger sans stripes look like a tiger? Answer: it's the cheek floofs.)
