I've just been ranting about Twice-Dead King to my partner, specifically the 2nd book (Reign).
I honestly do think that Ruin and Reign are THE most interesting Necron novels. The stakes are more interesting, the characters are more interesting.
I wanted to read about the Flayers and learned much more about their culture.
It's not a story of kookie hijinks. By memory, I think the senile Denet and his monoliths is the 'kookiest' thing there.
It's about a guy who barely got to become an adult and he is stuck like that.
The compulsion to blink. To breathe. To feel.
