Daily Instrument — Zurna
The zurna is a middle eastern double reed aerophone. It originates in Persia, and spread to other countries following the spread of Islam. It was a popular instrument in militaries, but now is only played for village festivals. The zurna is a single piece of wood flaring on one end, and with a pirouette on the other along with 8 finger holes. The zurna is a loud instrument requiring high pressure to be played, meaning that circular breathing is used.
