Though she had been grinning rather teasingly when she first made the statement, the smile that came when she listened to Tsubasa’s explanation was much softer, more genuine.  Her left wing was always so straightforward, so earnest and sincere about her feelings.  With no warning she pulled Tsubasa to her, arms wrapped around her neck with care, holding her for a few moments before pulling back to smile at her again.

“Well, that’s too bad,” she replied simply.  “You already made it clear you’re not letting me give everything up for your sake again, so I’m not letting you do it either.  Guess we’ve got no choice but to stick together, huh?”

She was in the shower, a meal set out for the fourth night in a row that was made carefully, with some....honestly not desirable chocolates in a dish that were made by hand, it was late and she knew it but finally she had the courage to invite her over for dinner, and now....she was panicking again, in the shower letting it wash over her, the door to the bathroom was open....she never thought to close it, and the door to her apartment was unlocked, she just......wasn’t sure what to do or how to handle it, valentines day was not something she was good at.

“Yes, of course! I promise that everything has been going smoothly! I’m caught up in homework and keeping up with training, haha!”  She’d really have to get cracking on her backed-up homework now. So telling her a little white lie would be fine...right?

“What about you, Tsubasa-san? You’re okay, right?”

Honestly Kanade had never really celebrated the holiday before either- at least, not with a lover.  She’d always made sure to get stuff to her family and friends whenever the holiday came around ever since she was young.  It was different with Tsubasa.  The bond they’d formed through singing and fighting meant more to Kanade than anything in the world, and...well, Tsubasa said she didn’t have to, but she felt otherwise.  She couldn’t not make this gesture to someone she loved in this way.  Based on the reaction she had, she appreciated it too.  The kiss was unexpected, bringing a matching blush to her face as well, though she was soon smiling brightly as ever.

“No problem.  Think you gave me something better anyway.”  Honestly she’d been expecting to be the first to do something like that, if they were to ever show such mutual affection toward each other.  “Guess that means I’ll have to find a way to beat that now, huh?”

This had to be it.  Kanade knew she couldn’t keep it secret from her anymore.  There would be no better moment to finally express how she felt with Tsubasa.  They’d spent New Year’s Eve together before, but this would be the one they’d remember even years down the line.  She would make sure of that.

She met her dear partner on a balcony, perfectly poised to watch the celebration without being around all the loud people- not a problem Kanade would have had, but she was sure that Tsubasa preferred it this way.  Though she appeared her typical upbeat, confident self the whole time they spoke, she was actually somewhat anxious about doing this.  She didn’t want to shock Tsubasa and make her push her away or anything like that, and this might end up being too surprising for her to handle.  But at the same time...she had to.  Her gut wouldn’t leave her alone about it- she HAD to take the leap, as she always did.

As the crowd counted down to the start of the New Year, so, too, did Kanade in her mind.  Her move was made right as they reached zero- grabbing Tsubasa gently, she quickly pulled her in to press her lips to hers, eyes shut.  For a few moments she could feel that Tsubasa was frozen.  An expected reaction, honestly- she just really hoped it didn’t turn into something more negative.

Fortunately any worries she had were unfounded.  The next moment she felt those lips pressing back against hers, and her heart swelled.  Hands carefully held onto her, pulling her closer, making this moment last as long as they could.  The fireworks going off in the distance set the mood perfectly, a bright, booming expression of Kanade’s emotions at that moment.

All too soon she had to pull away- as much as she wanted to kiss Tsubasa forever, even idols had to catch their breath every now and then.  She stared deeply into her eyes, a serene smile coming to her face.  Then she saw the soft streaks of tears that had come down her face.

“...Tsubasa?  Why’re you crying?”  Ordinarily she would tease her about it- something like “It wasn’t that bad, was it?”  But this wasn’t the time.  One wrong move and she could ruin this.  For once in her life, Kanade Amou was being cautious.

She had promised it for Tsubasa’s sake when she came back, after all.

The few who had gathered around the girl applauded as she finished the song, some sliding some cash in the nearby tip jar, others simply going about their business, their days brightened that much more by her singing.  Regardless of what they did, she would always smile and thank those when she was finished with a song.  More than the money, she did it because she loved performing for others.  Anyone who took the time to listen to her sing had her sincerest appreciation.

There were, however, things she didn’t appreciate quite as much.  For some reason, people would come up to the red-haired girl at times and...ask for pictures.  Hold out things for her to sign.  Treated her as if she were some kind of idol- told her that she was one.  They’d say names she was unfamiliar with- Zwei Wing, Tsubasa- but they’d always call her by one name.  Kanade.  She didn’t remember any other name for herself, so she accepted it.  Everything else, however, she couldn’t accept.  Why would they tell her that she was something she clearly wasn’t- why lie to her about who she was?  It had been confusing at first, but by this point she would get annoyed whenever anybody would dare speak of it, though she’d contain herself when children were around.

Fortunately such things weren’t on her mind tonight.  She eyed the tip jar from where she stood- seemed like a good amount in there!  Of course, the night was still young, so there was more to be made.  As the next song came on- another English one- she stood at the microphone and began to serenade any listening ears.

“♪ We’ll meet again Don’t know where, don’t know when But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day... ♪”
