M3 located in Canes Venatici, the hunting dogs constellation. It is one of the largest and brightest globular star clusters, and is made up of about 500,000 stars. Located about 33,900 light-years from Earth, the cluster spans approximately 220 light-years. It is estimated to be around 10 billion years old, twice as old as our solar system. Like most “globs” M3 is rich with relatively high abundances of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and neon. Most matter in the universe is comprised of hydrogen and helium.
