Yet another photograph of M45, the Pleiades star cluster. My last couple of images of this beautiful cluster were taken with wide-field rigs. This is the exact opposite. I have astrophotographed this before at 180mm, 200mm, 368mm, 675mm, 750mm and now at 1280mm. This using a "new" old Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain 8" telescope that was gifted to me. As far as I can tell the telescope is circa the mid-to-late 1980's but still appears in great condition and added bonus is that I can use much of my existing gear -- mount, guidescope, cameras, electronics -- on this. I love the fact that i can go big now. So what are we looking at here? To start with, three of the seven sisters: bottom-left, Merope; bottom-right, Maia; and, top-sorta-centre, Alcyone. In addition, we can see a lot of bluish nebulosity around each star. Technically these are reflection nebulae caused by dust reflecting the blue light of the hot, young stars. Young as in around 100 million years.
