Lady glared down at the little toddler wading about the floor, before the toddler looked up at her with forlorn eyes, her mouth forming a pout, her big brown eyes moist when she stared at her mother. Lady felt her heart softening like melted butter. Though the toddler was bathed in chocolate, she couldn't stay angry at her angel-like face for long.
"Darling, what have I left you to this time?" she shook her head, inwardly scolding herself for falling asleep on her daughter. the little girl had angry patches of chocolate all over, probably due to the fact that she stole some confection that was on the middle shelf of the fridge. She picked up the messy toddler and followed the brown trail to the refrigerator, only to find the chocolate fudge she's been saving for the Baciare family completely gone. Her guess was that the chocolate confection was all over her girl. Lady sighed at her own carelessness, she should have remembered that a certain little boy wasn't as little as she thought, and she had an overwhelming feeling that he was the mastermind of this chocolate disaster. The girl she was holding had started playing with her necklace and coated her pendant in chocolate.
"Suzie, I found some sprinkles!! Oh...." the little boy's excitement died immediately as he spotted Lady and the messy infant. Lady raised an eyebrow at her son, her face displaying a plastered smile. "Hi Mummy, w-we were baking a.. Umm... Brownies, yes!" the boy said, emphasising on the last word.
"Oh really? So Suzie became the baking tray?"
The boy's eyes were downcast. He was bad at lying and he knew it.
"Awww, alright, Mommy. We wanted to make those chocolate fudge you're so good at, but we kinda planned to just taste it a little, y'know, to figure out what's in it. Guess we got a little messed up." he sighed and stood there, uncertain if he should stand closer to Lady. Moved by his thoughtfulness, she went over and ruffled his hair. "Why didn't you just come and ask me?"
"Daddy told us you had a long day, and not to disturb you if you fell asleep." Lady shook her head and smiled. It was so like her husband to tell their children something like that, when she insisted that she was fine and she did need waking up because it was her task to look after them and she was supposed to perform it well. Her mind went back to the earlier part of her day, when she was roused from sleep by a soft kiss from her husband. Just thinking about him now send shivers down her spine, he had been gone all day and she missed him.
Her little girl laid her head on her shoulder, quietly sucking her thumb. Bending over so that her face was level to her son's, she asked him in a soft voice,"What say we make two chocolate fudges? One for the Baciares and one more for Daddy? I'll make the one for Uncle Tramp and Auntie Lottie, and then I'll help you with the one for Daddy? How does that sound, good?" the little boy's sullen face lighted up, his excitement obvious with the prospect of making an actual chocolate fudge. "Is it Daddy's surprise? Is it? Yayyyyyyy!" Lady laughed at her successful attempt of convincing him, trailing him to the kitchen for another baking expedition, this time with her beloved children.
