Here's a picture from way back, Keeper Colwyn alongside his partner Keeper Kaelan—she was a ranger who used the Jungle Stalker as her primary pet. Colwyn feels like she's never quite forgiven him for dying the way that he did initially. Knowing him, it was probably in attempt to aid someone in trouble as he traveled the roads as a merchant.

Even after coming back, he continues to work as a merchant and a Whispers agent—hence his title—and for a while Kaelan continued with him. He wasn't able to save her from her own death. And since he came back from his own... Well, he kinda hung out around her grave for quite a while, still expecting her to wake like him, be a Revenant like him, and they'd continue their journey.

Took him about a year before he finally gave up, but he'd still visit frequently, bring her sweets that he found along the way. No, he doesn't still hold out hope. What are you talking about????
